How did you get to where you live? My father worked for B.I.A (Bureau Of Indian Affairs) for some 20 odd years, needless to say, we moved a LOT growing up! I was born in Wichita, Kansas, from there we moved to Mescalaro, New Mexico (just outside of Ruidoso, New Mexico) from there, we moved to the San Carlos Apache Reservation in 1965, from there, we moved to Whiteriver, Az (White Mountain Apache Reservation) in 1967 and I've been in the area ever since! I joined the Navy upon graduation from high school in 1976, came back to Pinetop in 1980 and the rest as they say, is history!

My family is the only one, from both sides, that were smart enough to move from West Texas "LOL!" Just kidding :D I've got kinfolk scattered ALL over Texas, most live in the Pan Handle, the rest are from Waco, Dallas, Lake Livingston, Midland, Odessa.

You knew this would get me.

I have already answered this somewhat. I was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma. I was the first child of my parents to be born off a Military Post, since in 1956 they were finagling around with the post-war Military and were going to de-commision a bunch of folk, and my father was on the list to lose his commision, and did not want to go back to being a non-commisioned officer, so he left service, instead and came back to Oklahoma.

My mother and father met when he was at West Point, and that is how I ended up with a Yankee mother. My mother's family are all yankees, living in New York and Pennsylvania mostly, and I did not really know them very well, since we lived in Oklahoma all my life.

My father's family came to Oklahoma from Georgia and Missouri after the Civil war mostly. My great grandfather was a half breed Sax Fox Indian and was a post route carrier in Indian Territory. He was born in Hale, Missouri. His wife was born in St. Jo Texas, and my great great grandmother (her mother) was born in Douglasville, GA. I have lived in Oklahoma most of my life, but have traveled a great deal, and seen 46 of the United States and 20 foreign countries.

Both my parents grew up in the Bronx NY, which is a part of NYC. Then soon after they got married they bought a house in Yonkers, which is a part of the northern suburbs of NYC. Then I came by the stork, so I thought, and lived in Yonkers for 29 YEARS. My parents then bought a house in White Plains in 1989, and Recently I just got my own condo not far from where we previously lived.

I was born on Tuesday, April 27, 1982 in Santa Ana, California. I lived there in Santa Ana for 3 years before moving to a small and somewhat isolated (at the time) town called Trabuco Canyon in 1985. We had our own house there, then moved to an apartment. A few years after that, a new town next door called Rancho Santa Margarita opened, and we moved there. We stayed in Rancho Santa Margarita until 1997, when my dad's job transferred him to Orlando, Florida. I was upset at this, as it meant leaving family and many lifetime friends behind - basically I had to start over. We lived in Florida from June 1997 to December 1998. Then we moved back to California. I was so happy about that. There I remained, while my dad moved back to Florida once again in early 2000. I now live on my own in southern California.

Wow Nalora, it is really great you have so much information about your geneology! Fantastic old picture to! Thanks for sharing that with us, I love old family pictures :)

My story is rather boring to say the least. My great grandparents on my Dad's side came over to South Africa and Settled in a place called Kimberly (where all the big Diamonds come from, he was a miner) My fathers parents met and moved to Johannesburg. My Dad's mom is from Zimbabwe. My Mothers family is a bit hazy, as her Mom was adopted. She was very very Afrikaans, she Married my Grandfather who came to South Africa from England, they met during World War 2 in Bloemfontein and were both Majors in the South African army. My parents met in Johannesburg and moved down to Durban when I was 2 years old. When I got married my husband and I decided to take up an offer from my husbands brother to move over to Florida USA and help to run his microlight business. Well here I am and hopefully here I stay!!!! :)

Grew up in north central Illinois where both my parents and their parents were born and raised. Seeing the handwriting on the wall at my place of employment after 18 years of service (it was a family owned business and I was NOT part of the family), After 50 years, I decided to take a chance on escaping winters and finding new opportunity in the desert Southwest.

It's been a great opportunity thus far...with more to come, I hope!

Great thread!

My mother's mother I believe was born in NYC. My mother's fater was born in Italy shortly before they came to America just after the turn of the century. My father's mohter was born in Salem, MA  and my father's father was born in Rhode Island. All of my family ended up in New York - Brooklyn and Queens to be exact. They eventually moved to Long Island. I was born in Jamaica, NY (Queens County) and moved to our first home in Bethpage, NY (Nassau County) when I was 2 (?). we eventually moved out to Nesconset, NY (Suffolk County) when I was 7 and we lived there until my father found a job in southern New Jersey when I was 15. My whole family still lives here except for my father who now lives in Colorado.

My dad and his folks all grew up here in metro Atlanta (Douglas/ Paulding counties), while mom was from rural eastern Tennessee (between Knoxville and Bristol). Dad was an only child while mom was one of nine children (baby girl).

How they met? Dad and mom's older brother became buddies in the army (took basic training together). Even though dad went to South Korea and uncle Bill to Germany, they didn't lose touch. After dad returned from overseas, he and mom met...introduced by her brother. They were married five years later (long courtship...mom was painfully shy). I showed up 16 months later and the rest is history

Other than two brief periods (less than a year), I've lived in this area near Atlanta my entire life.
