Teen Feeds Pet Cat To Alligator
POSTED: 7:35 p.m. EDT May 17, 2003
UPDATED: 9:03 a.m. EDT May 18, 2003
CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- A teenage boy fed a neighbors pet cat to an alligator just to see what the gator would do, police said.
He was arrested on charges of felony cruelty to animals, feeding a gator and the theft of the cat.
Police said Castor acknowledged he kicked the cat -- named "Homeboy" -- in the stomach and head Thursday, then threw it into the canal to feed a gator.
The cat's owners said Andrew Castor led them to the canal, where they saw the dead cat still in the gator's mouth.
Sixteen-year-old Cari Taich was horrified. She said the cat slept in her bed every night.
The cruelty to animals charge is a third-degree felony. If tried as an adult, the maximum sentence could be five years in jail and a ten thousand dollar fine.
Castor first told police another boy threw the cat to the alligator, but later acknowledged he acted alone.

you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat a cat.

OMG, what is this world coming to I ask you all?
That boy is an abused child, where did he learn behavior like that? Mark my words, there's abuse in his family history.......if the parents are kind to animals, the children will be too.
Such a sad story. First I got all excited posting on the above Cats topic. Nice to be among many cat lovers here (as I am, I have been my whole life) and then I read this story. Can't even pet a cat right now. Well, I'll go pet my dog. Next best thing...........

You're right j - my feelings exactly! I hope he gets the maximum penalty allowed by Florida's law. Personally, I wish we could feed him to the aligator too - save the taxpayers some $$$
Ticka - I am so sorry to hear about your cat!

Thanks for the kind words Stephanie. I have learned alot about Feline Leukemia in the last 4 days. If your cat is an outdoor cat - they strongly suggest you get them tested - especially if you have multiple cats in your household. Has anyone else had to put their cat's to sleep for Feline Leukemia?

Actually, I did have each one of them tested as they came into the household. One that we fed right before we got Mac we named Socks - he was a very friendly black and white cat. I finally let him in one night when we were getting some pretty violent thunderstorms. I made an appointment with the vet and unfortunately, Socks had Feline HIV and I had to put him to sleep. I was totally stunned. Here I was getting a cat checked out and getting his shots and the next thing I knew I was bringing him home in a box!

I called Marty at the gym and he flew home. Socks did have tell tale signs of Feline HIV - a wound that didn't heal, bleeding gums (which I didn't see until the vet showed me), and sniffles. I just never knew it existed, but if he bit another one of my cats or any other one, they would've been infected.
The neat thing is that Mac came by a month or two later. He was a big, healthy, red cat and fortunately the tests came back negative. I like to htink that Mac is really Socks reincarnated - he found a healthier body to live in!
