If You Had The Chance....

Back in the late 1980's, I was invited to ride along with a hurricane hunter aircraft crew out of Florida. The trip was on NOAA, but the challenge was that I needed to get my rear end down to Florida in a hurry as soon as they called me for the opportunity.

I wimped out. My kids were then like 8 and 13, and Kathy wanted me to take out more insurance if I was going to give it a shot. I used some pretty feeble excuses to "pass" on the opportunity.

As it turned out, there were no more strong storms anywhere near Florida that season, so my shot might have been for naught anyway.

But...I'm curious if given the chance to take that 10-12 hour ride through the core and back and through the core and back and..., would YOU do it?

I would, I'd love to fly through a hurricane. These storms fascinate me like you wouldn't believe. :D

I would go, without a second thought! Ok as long as I had a parachute on ;) I love flying, any aircraft, and love roller coasters too. I think flying through a hurricane must be the most increadable experience in the world...

Are any of those planes ever lost? Assuming the odds are good, I'd go.

In a heart beat! When stationed in Adak Alaska, I got the chance to fly from there to Barbers Point Hawaii on a P-3 Orion, one of the planes they use in hurrincane studies I believe, that is one of the most stable planes made!
