I'm the typical male driver. I know exactly where I'm going, even when I'm lost. ONLY if there is a time crunch will I take the time to stop and actually ask someone for directions.

So...if and when your car gets disoriented in spite of your great geographical wisdom, do you stop and ask for directions or just keep on truckin'?

I usually ask the driver to ask for directions since I want to get where I'm going and since I ain't drivin (since I can't!)

LOL...........Who me ask! Mr Rand Mcnally himself ...........I really cant answer this because i have yet to get lost.................Lets put it this way the first time i came here to Ohio from the DE coast all i did was look at a map of the area where i needed to go and the address of course and just remembered it and got here with no problems......And believe it or not i had never been on or even thru this side of the apps..............I imagine if i ever by chance do get lost i would ask for directions......... Either way i have yet to ever get lost......Honest.

I usually get lost walking to my car at WalMart. :o I have a very bad sense of direction. I always stop and ask for directions, I will yell and scream untill my better half stops and asks for help. This usually brings much muttering and moaning "I know where I am going"

LOL@southerngale.......I am serious i have yet to ever get lost..........Maybe its luck......But i have yet to ever get lost................Honest.......Either way if you have or havent its nothing to be ashamed of......

Seriously, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of getting lost either. It happens. Actually, I have a very good sense of direction, except (like Amanzi) in the Walmart parking lot. That thing is HUGE and I go too often so I occasionally think I parked in one spot and then remember, "Oh wait, that was yesterday."
Luckily, I do pretty good elsewhere and rarely get lost. But if I do, if I can't resolve it on my own fairly quickly, I wouldn't hesitate to stop and ask for directions.

Actually i have been driving for almost 17 years now southerngale.........And i will admit to missplacing the car a few times myself...lol.........But like you said and i did in my first reply i sure wouldnt hesitate to ask for directions if i ever do get lost......And so far i havent.......I hope this does not jinx it....

I don't get lost....I plan my route by map, memorize it, go, and I'm "there".

Steve - I always want to stop and ask directions. Especially after we've really gotten off the beaten path. But Jim plows on.....that male thing I guess. And between the two of us, I'm naturally the one that runs into a convenient store asking for directions. A few times that's backfired though. Once a new employee, a foreigner, didn't even know his town well. He felt so bad. Me too - we were really lost at that point! Forget how that turned out.....sometimes just backtracking and getting back to the point where it all went wrong, helps. We've done that.

My dad taught me early on in my driving days to always have a point of reference, and know North from South, for example. To get your bearings. Here in Cincy, it's easy. So many main roads go a specific direction. And the river is usually to your south. Examples like that, if not for my dad making that a big deal, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. Some people my age today still have a poor sense of direction. Thanks Dad!

Oh I definitely stop and ask for directions. I have been lost so many times in the past. That is one scary feeling.

When my children figure it out (that I am lost) the youngest always rears up and says "Oh no, not again" LOL!!

Mary... one of the reasons I bought my latest vehicle is because it has the "On Star" I must say that modern technology sure has helped me out.

I'd say stop & ask for direction, although I don't trust a lot of people who don't know where that place is.

Been lost once and found my way out. I asked for directions once and was led in the wrong direction ( <=== Why I hate New England) but I figured that one out too.

I'm sorta like Bill...I plan out my trip, always take my maps and road atlas with me, and very rarely if ever get lost -- while driving....

HOWEVER...I do get lost walking. While visiting my former teacher today, I became lost inside my old high school (it was totally renovated after a major fire in 1988, and today was the first time I've been inside since).

I saw two high school girls standing in the hallway trying to figure out why I was looking for a stairwell that no longer existed....I just casually said "ladies...you know your getting old when you go back to visit your old high school and get lost" (they both ROFL

You stole that quote from my wife!! When we were dating, she would often drive us to places neither of us had ever been, and get us completely lost. Ah, the good ol' days...

As for me, I have asked for directions a few times - but usually I will say "We will see a familiar road soon". Thankfully, we usually do.

I hate asking...i'd rather drive around aimlessly and look dumb
