Spontaneous or Planner?

The years are slowly taking my spontaneity away. Not that I had that much in the first place. Always wanted to know who, what, where, when, and why before I headed out the door.
These days I mark calendars, make long range plans, and have lists to remind me where my lists are.
I'm convinced that brain cells are actually in your hair. Lose your hair, lose your memory.
I admire people who are comfortable with spontaneity.... Is that you Nalora? Who else?
And who among you are much happier campers if you can plan your work and work your plan?
Raise your hands now!

I am definitely more of a planner. I leave the spontaneity to my better half.

Quote from Steve: And who among you are much happier campers if you can plan your work and work your plan?
I am! *raises hand*
I love to brainstorm things out before I actually do them. It helps me plan and work things out better, not to mention actually doing them.

Well, I am definitely more of a planner with work, but, with
play, I am more spontaneous!

I am more spontaneous in doing things, than planning them.
If I have to plan something (like next Tuesday morning to the airport) I know I have to do it and because of that... I will have to plan on going to bed earlier than I typically do.

I have to be a planner. And it seems in every family, there is one person who keeps the schedule going. And that job falls upon my shoulders. I swear sometimes my family is clueless......but for the most part they now ask what we have on the agenda for each night or at the very least each weekend. And the activities are usually not our doing, the kids are the ones keeping us busy. I know I'll be in for a shock when my youngest starts college and my car isn't turning into that HS parking lot a zillion times a week, but I'm sure I'll bounce back. And finally consider finding my own activities again.
One of the best ideas I ever heard was my sister-in-law's. She first had a huge calendar on the wall by the phone/desk. All activiites were posted, naturally. But she kept a notebook on the desk. One page for each day. She wrote at the top each family member's plans - doctor appts., meetings, etc. But below it each person could write a note too - out of shampoo, if you're grocery shopping, pick some up. Or I'll be home late from school, make-up test, etc. Phone messages were written down on this notebook, since they all referred to it. She said that kept their lives even saner, if that's possible. Her kids were teens at this point and they all had busy schedules. I need to implement this soon. We're getting to this point. But you do need to be very organized, something I'm about 75% of the time.
I also keep pocket folders for each daughter's club or activity. All handouts from teachers/coaches go in them. I keep them handy near the phone. That in itself saved about 50 flyers taped to the fridge. LOL I got this idea one Fall as were school supply shopping. I just picked one color, yellow, and bought 10 folders for me. Kids just rolled their eyes, but they've referred to these folders, many times. See, sometimes mom's have good ideas I tell them.........LOL
Not fun when you think you'll remember something, but you don't. I call it information overload. Life should be simpler, but then again it could be dull too. Trade-off.

I'm a spontaneous person, if I were to plan, I'd never do it "LOL!" Like breeze, planner for work, the rest of life, spontaneous!

Well being the obsessive - compulsive person that I am, this is a tough question. I obsess about the plan being perfect and everything being perfectly organized and planned especially at work and in my home BUT I am impulsive about shopping!!! Help, I'm a shopoholic!!! That's a sad state of affairs when the only spontaneity in your life is buying a new couch!!! Karan, get a life would ya!!!!!!lol

I have to plan everything...where I'm going, for what purpose, just enough calls or "window shopping" to ensure that what I want is available or the timetable is correct...THEN make one trip out, obtain it/perform it, and straight back here.
Spontaniety went out the window after college...you should have known me back THEN!

I am pretty spontaneous I guess, if I have to choose, tho I am a pro at planning things when that need arises.
For instance. My sister has my grandmother's vanity. I was in her bedroom a few weeks back and noticed that she did not have a "vanity set" of linens for it, and decided that if I got on the ball I could prolly crochet her a nice set before her birthday on May 31.
So I got out my crochet books and had a look and tried out a couple motifs that looked nice and finally settled on one to do...
Then I kept hearing that this weekend was "Memorial Day Weekend" and well, my sister was born around memorial day, so I am freaking out thinking I will not have time to complete the vanity set so I go to my calendar on the wall to check to see exactly how far I am from May 31, and hells bells if this weekend is NOT really memorial day, but some kind of finagle by THE POWERS THAT BE to confuse old folk like me....
Also I notice that I have not changed my calendar over from April yet....
In general I plan the day when I have had my second cup of coffee, On trips I take the LONG roads, I dont take the main highway, and I stop a lot when I get the urge.
I guess I am spontaneous.

Actually, there is nothing for me to really plan for. I am pretty sure this is because of my Asperger's Syndrome.

I love to plan stuff. Especially trips... I also like to do stuff right out of the blue.

Definitely a planner here...as an Asperger Syndrome "Aspie" part of high-functioning autism is a characteristic of having/needing to know what looms ahead in the near-future in terms of family/friends activities, for ie.
I enjoy an occasional surprise but mostly like to PLAN ahead!

Ugh!... This is more complicated than it should be.
I see exactly what Eric means by being a planner. As Eric stated, one of the characteristics of Asperger's Syndrome is having/needing to know what looms ahead in the near-future in terms of activities is true for me too. My previous comments of being spontaneous make sense, but might not to some of you.
