Like Vioxx, another Cox-2 inhibitor, Bextra is believed to increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Bextra was the only anti-inflammatory that seemed to help me after my wreck last year. My doctor, however, pulled me off of it the minute the first thing about it's dangers came out. I have taken vioxx and celebrex also. I have not had any problems that are apparent, but geez, it sure does make you wonder.

It was just a matter of time.

I never thought Bextra was that great anyway. Ibuprophen works better than any of them if taken in the proper quantities.

The doctors I work for (Orthopaedic Surgeons) rarely prescribe Bextra since the Celebrex/Vioxx findings came out as it was said that Bextra was pretty close to the same in findings. About the only thing they prescribe is Mobic and the normal anti-inflammatories you had before Celebrex, Vioxx and Bextra came out...Cox II's were great for the folks that had stomach problems, but your heart is worth a lot more than takeing something for your stomach to offset the anti-inflammatory....if you can take it at all.
We have a big sign posted that says if you are still taking Celebrex, Vioxx, Bextra, please talk with the physician as these medicines have......
then the long explaination from the pharmaceutical companies.
