Out with Albertson's, in with Super Saver.

One of two Albertson's stores in my hometown will be closing June 9th at 4:00PM CDT to be converted into a Super Saver Store. I don't know if it's the same company running it or not, but I knew that was gonna happen after seeing the shop 'n' scan device station removed and self check-out lanes permanently closed, even the movie rental room was locked up.

Albertsons hasn't had much success. It is like Food Lion---just doesn't have the horsepower to compete with some of the more "corporate" types of stores. I'd bet the entire company gets bought out....that is what is going to happen to Kroegers.

All of the Albertsons here in Houston closed down a while ago... They were too pricey for the area...the only thing I miss about them is the fresh bread!

I think Kroger is doing the buying out.

That's what I was going to say. Kroger is one of the largest grocery chains in the world, if not THE largest. Don't be fooled by the limited area of the "Kroger" name. They own a LOT of different regional chains.

Ahhhh. Gotcha. I am a guy. What do I really know about grocery stores, 'cept I have to use them by necessity.

I personally love my local Albertsons' store.. I do all my grocery shopping there.. and if you shop smart, it's not that expensive..

The people are nice.. the stores are usually very clean.. and I like the prices.. Yes Super Saver is 1 of Alby's subsidiaries or whatever the proper term is..

The Sav-on Pharmacy (Which barely opened a couple of months ago) will still be open during the store remodeling, they're just gonna be having different owners.

We lost Albertson's here in the Omaha area after 20 years last year. It was pretty active on the market. We had several Wal-Mart Supercenters being constructed all over the metro area, in addition to the current three. One local company bought out about 6 Albertson's, while another bought out about 6 more or so. One of the companies did not feel the need to have 6, so they sold three stores to Kroger Company. Basically, the Albertson's/Osco became a Kroger/Baker's Pharmacy.

Speaking of Food Lion, that store in my area stayed closed after a decade. Still boarded up now.

George and I shop at Albertson's every week. I hope they don't close mine.

I just got an update about the store:

An Albertson's store will be changing to "Super Saver" store.

Official website.

The remaining Albertsons store in Irving is in the Valley Ranch suburb.

Yep, Publix sure is popular here in Florida.

About a year after the Albertson's very close to me opened, there were reports of them not doing too well.

Of course, Winn-Dixie has seen better days.

All three chains are very close to one another here, especially Publix and Winn-Dixie... I've can't say I have
seen two supermarkets any closer than these two about three miles to my west.

I don't know what they'll do with the Bank of America there, they'll probably stay as well.

BTW, I applied for a job with the Super Saver Co. so hopefully I'll have a job there whenever the store opens.

It seems that Albertson's is closing sooner than planned, they're on their last 3 days. The Bank of America and the SavOn Pharmacy that share the same building will be still open during the next remodeling, and the Super Saver store will open June 23rd.

back in the early 1980s, they had canary yellow walls with brown signs and white lettering. Then in the mid 1990s after a good remodeling, they have a white background with gray tiles and blue & red lettering. Yesterday, I found out that the store facility (changing to Super Saver Foods) is going back to ol' school canary yellow, except add red and green.

The current color scheme they had inside the store is a calming combo. You can just take your sweet time shopping in there. Now it's gonna be like a "rush in, get what you need, and get the heck outta there" kind of color scheme. Just as bad as plaid.

Wow! Wonder what they are doing in Plano?? That's my neighborhood grocery store, but within a mile is a Flagship Tom Thumb and a Kroger. . . I kinda like going in and seeing the same people I've seen for the last 13 years!
