Hurricane Swarm Leads To Fla. Baby Boom
Doctors Say They're Seeing More Pregnancies

Doctors in Florida say they think they know what's behind a small baby boom that's about to hit the state.

They're crediting the hurricanes that hit Florida last summer to the higher number of expecting moms and dads.

One health official said there are more than twice the number of parents-to-be in her birthing class. And another says she has 51 expectant mothers due this month and 43 more due in June, up from an average of about 30 per month.

One set of parents admitted that the numbers are no coincidence. The couple said they, too, were stuck at home with no electricity and ended up getting pregnant.

Well, the power was out--no TV, no internet. What does one expect?

Moreover, think of the calories burned up, and the healthy exercise gained. It would be "heart friendly."

Same thing happened here after Alicia. IN fact a friend who had a senior in High School ended up with a little one 9 moths after Alicia hit. His excuse was just that-"there was nothing else to do and I wanted to die in my wifes arms...". Anyway this does happen after just about every hurricane.

Let's hope a cane doesn't hit the Oragne area.

Or a Blizzard! This is the equivalent to our severe snowstorms in the Midwest and New England areas.

Sure makes sense to me. Maybe we all should disconnect more often? LOL

OK, so the east coast and midwest boom more babies then right? Because the west coast is sooooooo sweltering hot, I can't imagine a boom of babies being concieved here in the summer months! Its more like...get away from me you sweaty pig! hee hee

First thing I thought of was this happens after blizzards up here. You always read about it in the newspaper, 9 months later.....hospitals can't keep up with it all, staffing, rooms, more nursery space. And then it dies down again until Mother Nature whips something up again.

I do have a question though. These must first babies b/c what do you do with your children, when they can't watch TV, Video's, or get on PS2? They're bored out of their minds and you have to entertain them.

So I'm thinking this might pertain to couples just beginning parenthood.

Today has not been a good day... I was woken up early and couldn't go back to sleep and now I am dragging. Ugh.

Last Friday the 13th is when Charley slammed ashore.
