'Remorseful' Drunken Driver Lashes Out At Victim's Daughter
POSTED: 11:57 am EDT May 19, 2005
PENSACOLA, Fla -- A prosecutor in Pensacola said a convicted drunken driver who'd been sobbing with remorse on the witness stand "changed his tune in a hurry" when he confronted a relative of his victim.
The defendant, Donald Hawkins, was trembling on the witness stand as he lamented his "tragic mistake" in a crash that killed a 64-year-old woman.
But, as Hawkins was led from the courtroom after getting a 15-year prison sentence, he was overhead saying to a daughter of the victim, "I hope this happens to one of your children."
Relatives were shocked by the comment.
Prosecutor David Rimmer said, "I guess that shows how remorseful he really is."
Hawkins was found guilty of drunken driving manslaughter in the 2003 death of Mary Archer.

He would have never gotten up off the ground again if he had said that to me or one of my relatives.

I agree with you. I am starting to wonder if the world is about to implode.

The man just received a fifteen year sentence! DUH! Its human nature to lash out. Probably that or cry. I'm sure he deserved the sentence but I imagine the victim's daughter was smiling at the thought of his sentence and he saw it and lashed out.

All I have to say to that is so what?
He killed a personbecause he was too irresponsible to control his own actions. Adults are supposed to be responsible and just because someone has recieved a deserved sentence(too light in my estimation)they have no right to lash out at anyone, much less a child of the person they killed. HE SHOULD BE PROSTRATE ON THE GROUND CRYING REMORSEFULLY AND BEGGING FOR FORGIVENESS FOR HIS STUPIDITY!!!!

You said he was too irresponsible to control his own actions. The reason he lashes out is because he is not in control of his own actions. Its very difficult to understand why people behave contrary to what is decent and normal. It will drive a person nuts trying. I tried with my grandma for years and it just drove me bananas.

The sad thing is I know this person very well. He is called D.G. Hawkins at work. He was always a very nice person with a bad temper. On the night in question he blew through a 4 way stop sign and hit the womans car head on. This is very sad and I feel so sorry for the womans family. There was no since at all in him saying that, or drinking and driving. Period.

Hey, I know, we could have stood him in a kids wading pool and used my Taser on him

50,000 volts and water?
