On Sunday morning at 10 AM EDT May 22, 2005, R. Edward "Bob Lopez succumbed in his sleep due to complications of lung cancer. It's a tough loss locally for the Baltimore region. R. Edward "Bob" Lopez was part of the Kirk Mark and Lopez morning show and has been presenting the news on over 10 radio shows during his 28 years on the air at WIYY Baltimore's 98 rock. In tribute 98 rock will pay respect to Lopez with clips from the KML morning show and all jocks will stay off the air through Wednesday in tribute to the late Bob Lopez. Anyone living in Maryland and who knew Lopez or are a fan of him will agree that he will be sorely missed. He was truly one of a kind!!

WYII and WBAL radio GM statement

It is with great sadness that I inform you that Bob Lopez has lost his battle with lung cancer.

Since 98 Rock’s inception over 28 years ago, we have had more than 10 morning shows. Every show included, “Lopez”. He was the driving force behind each show. An unabashed liberal, he was absolute in his beliefs. Lopez was extremely bright, incredibly passionate with an extraordinary sense of humor. He was “one of a kind”.

As a husband and a father, his love knew no boundaries. Lopez is survived by his wife, Jean “Trixie” and his daughter Leandra. In lieu of flowers a scholarship will be set up in Leandra’s name.

More information is to follow.
