Update on my X-rays...

OK, here we go...

C/3-4-5 are fused, arthritic and have spurs that are affecting the discs; T/7-8 disc is ruptured, and L/5-6 are also arthritic and showing spurs; both shoulders are arthritic. This combination causes the deltoid muscles (neck-shoulder-down the spine) to "harden", making movement iffy at best.

Arthritis also found in both hands/knuckles, and that rash on my legs (plus the distended veins) confirm PAD.

I'm taking Tylenol Arthritis for pain, and have to take 1 aspirin every two days to relieve the arteries; GOOD news is that BP, pulse and gases are well within healthy norms. There are meds for the muscles, but my present Rx contraindicates their use.

They want to get me into PT, but my insurance has a very high spenddown, plus 20% of any visits after that (total of 20 per year allowed).

Thus it is written. :larrow:

Ouch is right! Sounds like time to build a still and reap the rewards.

A friend of mine just had some MAJOR back surgery. Turns out that the spongy material in the discs had calcified and was pinching her spinal cord. They went in and cleaned all that out. Dont know what they do to keep i t from happening again.

We wish you all the best for recovery.

I'm confused Bill, Have they actually done anything to help alleviate the pain you're in? Is that what the Tylenol is for? Gosh, what pain...I'm sorry...I'd be cantankerous and grumpy if I were in such pain. Love and prayers to you...pain is an awful state to live in...xoxoxo Furry >^..^<

Furball, the Tylenol Arthritis Formula is the best they can offer. Anything stronger would react badly with my other Rx, so that option is off the table. :larrow:

Bill - i have lots of back problems as well. have they ever given you the option of an epidural? they really help a lot. there is something else that can be done under anethesia as well but for the life of me i can't remember what you call it - have had it done twice now! lol That one last up to 6 months. If you are intereested, let me know and I will call the dr.s office to see what it is called.
Do hope you get to feeling better soon. I know it can be very miserable.
Praying that you can some how get some relief my friend.

depotoo,

My requirement for Doxepin alone renders anaesthesia a moot point (unless comatose is a viable option); this is one of three "maintenance" medications (Serzone and Klonopin are the others) I've been on for about ten years.

i believe the epidural can be done with no anethesia. you might check, Bill. It is worth a shot. Even some relief is better than none.

Actually, Tylenol Arthritis Formula can be safe and effective, especially when taken at recommended levels regularly. It has been very helpful for my hip and spinal degeneration pain.

Can you explore other alternatives to professional physical therapy? I don't know if PT educational institutions allow/require students to work with volunteers (under supervision) but perhaps that avenue could be explored. Also, check for library book/video yoga materials which feature yoga for back probelms. I've purchased a highly-recommended book Back Care Basics: A Doctor's Gentle Yoga Program for Back and Neck Pain Relief by Mqary Pullig Schatz, M.D. Some park districts and churches offer free-will offering "chair yoga" classes, too.

I pray for your wholeness, despite your body's complicated manifestations of dis-ease. The good news is the truth that your essence and spirit cannot be diminished by these physical challenges!

Streetsoldier,

Hope you get to feeling better soon. Have they mentioned Botox injections for your muscle spasms? It really helps, but a lot of insurance companies are not paying for this except in the neck/cervical region no lower lumbar injections right now are being approved. I've had Botox in my neck and out over my shoulder blades...man it helps relax those muscle spasms so much you wouldn't believe it! Something to ask the doctor anyway! I will keep you in my prayers!

Did the X-rays show any damage from your falls? I know that you've had arthritis for years and back problems too boot. I can't imagine the pain that you go through on a day to day basis.

The two falls, about one week or less apart, only served to maximize the problem areas, thus making it relatively easy to find them. Thankfully, our insurance took care of the diagnostics; the remedy, as it stands, will be much more elusive.

At least, now, I know what I'm dealing with!

Bill,I wish I could do something for you. I looked up those meds and I see what you're up against. Chronic pain and disability are one of the worst things that can happen to a person in this life. You've shown us that it is possible to carry on bravely in the face of it. Carry on!

LOL, coriolis! I have my own PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) subscription as well...I have to keep up on every Rx coming down the pike!
