For everyone in the Gulf South except Georgia (non tropical)

Today is the day that the southeastern states join everyone but the northeast (who goes on line as of 9/1/05) with an annual free copy of your 3 major credit bureaus (Experien, Trans Union, Equifax). The government threw us a bone last year and now allows consumers to have one free copy of your bureau every year. You have to pay extra if you want to run a beacon score. But this way people can track what's going on behind the scenes and make sure their bureaus are accurate, that no one is using your SSN for credit (a real problem with identity theft these days) and that obsolete information is deleted. There are three ways you can get your information - 1) call the toll free number, 2) go to the government FTP site, print out a copy of the request and mail it in, or 3) go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and follow the instructions. It's super easy as even a couple of computer illiterates at my office were able to do it today.
Remember, this can save you thousands of dollars in interest over the course of a home mortgage or even hundreds on a car loan.
Enjoy (and sorry this is in the wrong forum, but it's the only one I know at S2k except the winter forum.
