So will Storm2k brake the current Record of 429 online at the same time? Will Storm2k break 500? What do you think. Each of the Past 2 full hurricane seasons storm2k has had higher and just higher Numbers of People online, cant wait to see if we break the record this year. Especially if 2 Strong (Cat 3 or Higher) Canes are roaring towards the US.

Yep, I think we could very well do it. I couldn't beleive the amount of folks on last year compared to the year before. Of course, after Charley it was quite a while before I was able to log on again

Yes it also caused a bunch of server problems also having so many people on. I wonder if Dr Oliver has upgraded the server to be able to handle 600 or maybe even 700 users on at one time.

Because if we have the same exponential increase from 2004 to 2005 that we did from 2003 to 2004 then this site will become the most active one on the net. Surpassing everysite I can think of. Very active this site will be says my Friend Yoda.

Chad, Marshal, Dr. Oliver, or Moderators...Do any of you know the maximum threashold of members online at once that the new server can hold? Its been a while since I have really been on the board so I dont know if I missed any topics on it or not.

We really don't know what our user capacity is to be quite honest. We did upgrade the server last year to help out the situation. During Charley we were running on a single processor with 1GB of RAM. We had all kinds of problems with the server during peak times but a lot of it was attributed to a log file that needed to grow past the limits of Linux (2GB). We are now running on a dual processor system with 2GB RAM so that should help a bit. We also watch the log file so that it doesn't out grow what Linux can handle. I guess we won't know for sure what volume of traffic we can handle until we give her a real test

Thank you Marshal, it will be interesting to see how it all works out. Hopefully it stays up and running without a glich all season long. Just keep up the good work guys

Yeah. It all relies on having that major hurricane hit the US.....especially if it nears a populated area.

Guaranteed Record Breaking Moments:
-Having a Category 5 in the Caribbean, GOM, or just off the EC.
-Having a strengthening Category 3, or a category 4 or 5 make landfall somewhere in the US.
-Having a major hurricane make landfall in a major city.
-Having a hurricane come near New Orleans.

I definately think this will happen. Every year new records are made and word is getting around about Storm2k. And with this year tropics are looking to be more active then last year, it's almost a sure bet the numbers will get higher.

Depends. If we have a major city hit or an entire coastline(i.e. Miami or up the East Coast from Florida to the Mid Atlantic like Floyd) then we defintely will.

I'm absolutely sure we will. First cat 2 or higher threatening the coast.

Yes, IMO Storm2k will set a new record in 2005. There are more folks with internet access today than a year ago, and some of them are likely to be weather enthusiasts/ persons interested in hurricanes.

I am sure that records will be broken here at Storm2k as it is unquestionably the best place to find out information.

But, while remembering last year and the dt's I went thru when not being able to connect, it is important to remind ya'll that you can donate to s2k thru Paypal (there is a link at the bottom of this page) to help cover the costs of upgrades, etc. Every little bit helps! The every day costs of keeping this board running are a lot and anything you send is appreciated.

Kudos to Marshall and Chad et all for keeping us going and to all the Moderators (including the newbies {go CajunMama}) for keeping us in line.....I know that is not an easy job!
