Well after 15 years working in the grocery busness I am calling it quits!!! The mangers want work with me and my wife when it comes to our child.The new job will because I will work only 3 or 4 days.The rest of the time I will be home working with our little girl because she is Mentally disabled.The best part is NO third shift!!!More time for the family,my-self!!Now should I give a two notice or let the mangers crap in there pants???After all they treated me like crap!!!!!!

if you can live without the old job, forget the two week notice. why give them that benefit?

Always give two weeks notice. That puts the ball in their court. You never know where or when you might meet up with one of them again. It makes it a lot harder for them to give you a bad recommendation if you leave in a professional way.

And yes I do know how hard it is sometimes. I have been crapped on more than once by unscrupulous *^&&%$$%^^'s!!!! I can always live with the way I have conducted myself professionally.

Always leave a job on good terms regardless of how you really feel. If by chance the new job doesn't work out and you have your references checked by a potential employer you will have a postive reference.

i thought it was illegal for someone to give a bad reference. they could confirm that you were a good employee but couldnt say anything bad unless you were fired. i dont recall where i heard or read that, though.

Why give them notice. They cannot by law give bad references because that will set them uo for defamation..

What you do in life always follows you, no matter what someone has done to you, its what and how you conducted yourself that follows you. Would you be proud of yourself for walking out with no notice?

Give a notice, let them try and eat crow and get your back.....then they will realize what they have lost. If they don't want your notice, at least you tried!

One main question that is asked on all job reference phone calls is "is the person eligible for rehire" if that answer is NO.....then you got trouble. Most probably if you don't give a notice you won't be eligible for rehire, even though you wouldn't want to go back there, its a bad mark on your employment record.

Give them a two week's notice (Actually, depending on when the next schedule is made, just turn in a notice for the next week.)

BTW, congrats. I can NOT wait to leave the grocery business. Once I get a degree in Journalism, I will be MUCh happier.

Thanks everyone for the help.The grocery store I work for the mangers are not running it right.Inventory is -$35000 to -$120,000 short,the labor hours is always over.The store is not making bottom line figures.Last year we though 893 people because they do not want to put up with the BS!!! But I will give them a notice.
