Any good home remedies for fighting a fever?

I've tried gargling with warm salt water, good golly, that's excruciating.
It just laughs at Advil and Tylenol. Just took some new Tylenol cold capsules and they have my head so dried up, I feel like a shriveled prune.

any homeopathic remedies out there? I can hardly talk and it hurts SO bad to swallow.

sore throat

Sorry about the throat, Alicia!

I've used tea with honey before. The honey sort of coats the throat a bit-- just use herbal tea if you can. I think caffeine or black teas may be harsh on the throat. Lemon with the honey may help. Camomile tea is good, it surpresses coughs.

I've also used Chloraseptic to deaden the throat. Um, sucking on licorice (odd, I know). Sometimes sucking on an ice cube. If you go to a healthfood store, try homeopathic cough drops. They even have some now that look like lollypops and sort of taste like 'em too. I can't remember what they're called but they're made with some herb (elderberry??? don't quote me on that!)

Good luck!

One other thing to try-- A little dab of Vicks Vapor Rub in a pot of steaming water. The menthol steam is sometimes soothing and if not, it may at least help clear up some of the congestion if that's what's causing the sore throat.

Vicks also now makes an inhaler pack available at some drug stores. It's like a small coffee cup with a funky lid. You put hot water in it and drop in one of their tablets. Works really good on congestion, but I don't know about sore throats.

As a kid, my mom would slather on Vick's vapor rub on my neck, then wrap a bandana around it. Pinning it on in two places. It did work but wow, everything smelled like Vick's, especially if you went to sleep. When you were better you had to wash all of your bedding (I tried this a few times in my 20s too).

Now I just take Ibuphrophen, sip hot tea, and gargle with warm salt water.

Sometimes I develop those fun blisters after an infection, so when that happens I just gargle with half water/half peroxide (a tip from a Pharmacist once). I tilt my head from side to side, holding this mixture in certain places. The peroxide kills germs. You could even try this now. Peroxide is so cheap - like 33 cents a bottle! That Pharmacist told me to try this instead of a pricey Glyxoide ointment, $4 a tube. Worked the same for a cold sore (dabbing it on with Q tips).

Hope you feel better!

Actually, I think the whiskey...ahem...Kentucky Bourbon (get it right!)...comes into play in a "Hot Toddy," which is composed of honey, lemon, tea, and brandy or bourbon, served hot.

Can't vouch for its effectiveness though. I prefer the non-alcoholic version. :)

This may sound SICK but it doesn't taste TOO bad and by golly, it DOES work. This *formula* is from our pharmacist friend who is also a homeopathic specialist.

1 garlic clove (crushed)
1/2 teaspoon Cheyenne pepper (YES...PEPPER!)
2 tablespoons of honey
4 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 teaspoons of FRESH ground ginger root

add all ingreds. in a 12 oz cup of HOT water, let it sit for 10 minutes, strain, stir and sip! Like I said, this SOUNDS SICK but it DOES work! *The pepper BURNS the sore throat bug* "LOL!"

Been using some natural herb cough drops called Ricota...the yellow package. Seems to work well without the "power" of Halls.

Since you live in Florida, shouldn't be much need to add humidity to your room.

How about that move to Albuquerque! That might be just the trick.

Beautiful city in many ways...but I don't know where the best places to live might be.

Sore throats and larengitis (sp?) can be treated with equal parts of honey, lemon and whiskey/bourbon/sour mash. You don't need to swan dive off the wagon as a simple oz of each should work nicely. Heat it up, stir, sip slowly. Relief is on the way.

A friend who is a cardiologist swears by whiskey for colds. Since there is no cure, make the patient as comfortable as possible. Remember Granny's cure on the Beverley Hillbillies. That was a funny episode.
