It's down on a side street in a residential area. No homes hit.

DC-3 CARGO plane headed to Caribbean. Probably only has a crew then.

Miami area here, and I've seen the news.
Nobody was injured, they actually landed onto the street.

Definitely a DC-3 from the pictures. What a workhorse, those go back to the 40's so they're older than most of us.

News just said it is actually a DC-10 plane .. pilot and two? passengers all got out of the plane, they're still trying to put the fire out.
It crashed on Commercial Boulevard and NE 56th Street.
Was headed for the islands, but NBC4 wasn't sure of which one in particular. Seems like a failed emergency landing as well.

DC-3 or DC-10, they are OLD. DC-10's were like the big Boeing jets 40-50 years ago. Big back then but not now.

A plane has crashed in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood -- and the Federal Aviation Authority says that there may be survivors.

At about 3:45 p.m., the two-prop plane, possibly a DC-3 that was headed east out of the Fort Lauderdale Executive airport, went down at Federal Highway and Commercial Boulevard at 1742 N.E. 56th Street.

The plane appears to have been a commercial cargo plane. The plane was full of fuel having just taken off. There was a large area around the plane that was in flames and was being coated with foam.

The early reports indicate that the plane went down in a parking lot or intersection in a residential area near an apartment complex.

Matt Ross, a witness to the crash, said that the pilot's efforts were truly heroic. He said the plane was flying low with the engines running hard when the pilot had to bank hard to the right to avoid hitting Northridge Hospital. Immediately after passing the hospital, Ross said the pilot brought the plane straight down into the street.

Amazingly, the FAA said they that were three people aboard, and they have no word of any fatalities.

As of 4:20 p.m., there were no reports of injuries on the ground.

True.

DC-10's have three engines and actually are still being used by Northwest(or they were as of last year) to fly from Minneapolis or Detroit over to Europe. They can hold about 200-300 people. This one was MUCH smaller.

Don't know how any respectable media source can confuse a DC-10 with a DC-3. That's like confusing Shamu with Lassie. The aircraft WAS a DC-3.

Hope no one was hurt. This thread title should probably be changed before someone has a heart attack!

Yeah, they were told it was a DC-10 by their sources or something.
And nobody was hurt according to the news stations. The three people onboard all got out safely and were transported to the hospital.

Fixed.

Reports say 3 onboard all are OK. As long as they got out before it caught fire(it looks pretty bad), they are probably OK. Just a little bit of a rough landing.

crashed about a mile from my house in NE FLL. DC-3, the pilot put the thing down on the street in a residential hood..nice flying by him. Fort Lauderdale Executive is about 4 miles west of the crash site. I am not at home so no pics but my wife says the helicoptors are buzzing overhead.

Yep, still being used by NW as well as World, Omni, JAL, and others. Although they didn't have a great rep. when they first came out (nicknamed "Death-Cruiser-10").
