New Orleans Police are investigating two murders that took place at the same home in Algiers Point within 48 hours.
Investigators said someone knocked on 33-year-old Clarence Gaines’ door in the 600 block of Elmira Street on Sunday night around 11:30 and shot him when he opened the door.
Gaines suffered gunshot wounds to his head and neck and died on the scene, police said.
About 24 hours later, one of Gaines’ roommates, and unidentified 45-year-old woman, was about to walk into the same house when someone approached her from behind and shot her.
Neighbors said the victim took care of her elderly mother who lived next door.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
