VIRUS ALERT!?

Okay, Marty passed this on to me and I don't know how true it is, but I figured it's better to be safe than sorry. He also told me to make sure my Windows security patches were all updated.

PASS THIS ON TO ANYONE YOU HAVE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR.

If you receive an e-mail titled "It Takes Guts to Say Jesus" DO NOT OPEN IT. it will erase everything
on your hard drive. This information was announced yesterday morning from IBM: AOL states that this is
a very dangerous virus, much worse than "Melissa," and that there is NO remedy for it at this time.
Some very sick individual has succeeded in using the reformat function from Norton Utilities causing it
to completely erase the hard drive. It has been designed to work with Netscape Navigator and
Microsoft Internet Explorer. It destroys Macintosh and IBM computers.

This is a new, very malicious virus and not many people know about it. Pass this warning along to
EVERYONE in your address book, and please share it with all your online friends ASAP so that this
threat may be stopped

According to Snopes, this is a hoaxe.
http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/jesus.htm

I've gotten to the point where if I receive an email about a virus before any of the virus softwares alert me, that I first check out Snopes. An additional clue for hoaxes is when the message starts with: "send this to everyone you know."

Better safe than sorry per viruses. But a quick search on Snopes usually gives you the "truth."

There is no virus that will affect you from just opening an email. You have to click a link or open an attachment to get a virus from an email. The moral of the story: don't click links or open attachments unless you are absolutely certain that you know what it is. But there's no danger in opening emails.
