I'd better start a savings account just for my tickets :-) I CAN'T DRIVE 55 (or 65 or 75...) ;-)

Though I try to be a good, law-abiding driver, sometimes I give it 5 mph over, but that's it.

In my area, the freeways are generally 60 mph. Fat chance that speed limit is followed!!! (Of course, at rush hour, mind you, it seems like everything is crawling around 25 mph.)

If the road is empty ahead of you it is perfectly safe to go 85 or more. Its stupid drivers that cause highway deaths, not speed.

...Just make sure no one's looking. ;) You are right that stupid drivers cause highway deaths, most of them. I have my seen my share! ;)

I have a lead foot, and I pay for it with speeding tickets out the wazoo and high insurance. I'm always just a ticket or two from losing my license.

It's but a small price to pay for the joy of speed. ;)

I have a lead foot... but know the tricks to get away from cops.... ABSOLUTELY do NOT put your foot on the brake within 1/2 mi of police... that tips them into giving you a ticket... (you are making the effort to slow down...so that means you were going well over the speed limit!) Coast in the last 1/2 mi.... remember brakes are not your friend in this situaiton. As for radar detectors... those do not work....its too late after your sensor has gone off... busted!

"While such tricks of the trade for highway "Smokies" are well tried and tested, experts note that such methods are labor intensive. And as more police officers are tasked with anti-terrorism and homeland security duties, enforcing speed limits hasn't become a high priority despite the dangerous rise in high-speed accidents and deaths."

These guys obviously haven't been to Tarpon Springs, FL...... :grr: pulles over doing 68 in a 50 while people were passing me.

As a former leadfoot I can attest to this: By the time you see the police officer working radar its too late. Gradually slowing down if you are in heavy traffic..and still somehow managing to speed..may make it difficult for the officer the ascertain exactly which car hes clocking, therefore he/she may not stop anyone. Shannon you are right..stepping on the brakes is a dead giveaway. If you are stopped, be polite and cooperative..and dont make excuses. I have found for minor speeding offenses i.e 10 miles over or less, that following that advoce increases your chances for getting a warning instead of a ticket.

This could just as easily backfire. They think look at this guy he seen me and is still flying. It is a respect thing with officers most of the time. Trust me!

I have never been pulled over for breaking in front of a cop, even after being shot going 30 over.

Now, on the Florida Turnpike in places, even if it is bumper to bumper, you had better be going 100 m.p.h. or expect to be ran off of the road. When i drove to Orlando a few months ago, about 105 was the flow of traffic on the open Turnpike. Those doing 80-90 were not appreciated. it was quite safe driving as nearly everyone was doing the same speed

Are you serious? My car would probably fall apart, piece by piece, if I tried to drive 100! In 1994, when I got it, it was great (and had less than 10,000 miles) . Now I am committed to driving it until it dies. Guess I won't be going to FL any time soon!!

Sounds like the Florida Turnpike is nearly like Germany's Autobahn!!
