I got a really nasty sunburn today at work.. Mostly because it was our hottest day so far this season probably..

Plus.. I kinda didn't exactly keep myself as hydrated as I should have.. and by 4pm I was feeling it as I could barely stand up lol.. {Trying to laugh at self even though I know it could have been more serious}

I seem to get burned every day at work.. Can't wait till I can tell Mrs. Peneles why I would be a good stock boy in the pharmacy.. Maybe that'll get me out of the heat before we reach the mid to upper 90's lol..

BTW: Interviews for the pharmacy stocker job will be held next week sometime I was told..

Try Noxema John. It's what we always use for sunburn. It instantly cools the skin. Other family members use aloe vera cream. But we still use Noxema - have for decades! I'm from the generation that thought baby oil or Crisco guaranteed you a tan - wrong! LOL

Well, the trick is to put it on as soon as you get the burn. Now if possible. If you can get out for some. It's sold with lotion products and many generic lines make it - Walgreens, Kroger's, etc. Not expensive either.

We're all fair skinned in this family. And my husband has red hair and freckles - he's really doomed. We pack Noxema for every family vacation. Right next to the sunscreen. When my girls said they could apply their own sunscreen, we needed it b/c oops they missed a few places. And Mom went back to applying it. Not now though...he he. They're nearly grown....:-(.

you might be please to know that in 1914 Noxema was originally called "Dr Buntings Sunburn Cream", per the history section of the Noxema web page.

Doing all the mixing, heating, and pouring himself, Dr. George Bunting introduced his new cosmetic product as the first real alternative to the greasy, tallow-based medicating creams of the early 1900s. First called "Dr. Bunting's Sunburn Remedy," the inspiration for the name Noxzema came from a satisfied customer who exclaimed, "You knocked my eczema."

The absolutely best thing for sunburn is plain old vinegar. Cider or white (I wouldn't use the expensive stuff.) Pat it on with a well soaked and then use the clothe to lay on your forehead, cheeks, or nose. Yes - it smells but it doesn't last long. Do it as long as possible before you go to bed tonight. You may wake up still red tomorrow but I bet you a dollar you won't be sore. It is the only thing I ever used on the horrible sunburns my daughters sometimes got. The next day I would have them use a good lotion to keep the skin from drying too much.

It is the best.. I do it to myself but can't get the hubby to comprehend that the smell is so much easier to deal with then trying to sleep/function with sunburn

if burn is on you back, let ice cubs run down your back.... skin looses its moisture when you are burned... cold water on your back gives back some moisture the skin needs.

Just so you know, the temperature has nothing to do with how hot it is out. It has to do with how clear the sky is, and where the sun is in the sky. Technically, the sun is basically at it's highest in the northern hemisphere over the next 2 or 3 weeks - which is when you can burn the easiest. Anyway, if you're workin outside anywhere in the northern hemisphere right now you should be wearing sunscreen!!! Be careful and good luck with the Noxema!

I know your pain. I went down to Gulf Shores (still looks bad after Ivan) at the end of last month and got burned to a crisp. I had to sleep on my stomach. That was pure misery. The thing is I don't burn easy and thought I could go all day long with only one application of sun block. I could not. I promise you one thing it want ever happen again. :layout: 8-)

I don't know how readily available it is in your area (we can't get it here) but we were raised on "Seabreeze" for sunburns.

It works great.

I just checked the medicine cabinet and came up with "Aloe Vera Gel" from Walgreens.

$2.99 or 2 for $5.

Now that will work well. I'm sure he can find something with Aloe in it, he works at Wal-Mart . I've found that Wal-Mart has pretty much everything, and if they don't they ordered it yesterday.

I'd give anything to have a Walmart close.

To get to one from here we have to take a ferry 18 miles (1 hour, 20 minutes in good seas) then a Publico (Taxi) about 15 minutes.

We try to go over about once a month.

Take care, John!

The last time I had a severe sunburn was when I went swimming at my sister's junior high school outside pool (this was back in the early 1980s) and I believe one of the worst areas that got it besides my face was my neck!!

Lessons learned!

My burns really never have time to heal since I'm outside every day lol.. But I must have reapplied the sun block at least 3-4 times today...

and OF COURSE..

WE DID NOT GET OUR SEABREEZE STORMS UNTIL 501 PM WHEN I HAD CLOCKED OUT!
