massive blackout to our north, any ideas whats going on???

nope. glad it's not happening to me though (as I sit here "working" on my research paper)

All I've heard is its like 6+ counties on our north side...trying to find more info..

Apparently the power company up there had a plant completely fail....everthing west of the Trinity river went down...the following counties

Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, and Walker counties

Not a beatiful thing to have happen in June in Texas.

Yeah, they broke in on ABC 13 with the news earlier tonight. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/news/061505 ... power.html I couldn't help but joke, "As if telling them is going to help...they have NO POWER so they can't watch you right now with your breaking news!"

Seriously though, I hope everyone is safe and survives through the night without A/C and other facilities. (Ironic that we were just talking about this in another thread )

Several years ago, we had a small outage on a VERY hot summer afternoon south of the downtown Omaha area. Some older apartment buildings, with some elderly were affected. Thankfully, no one was on the elevators when it happend. I could imagine being in a small "room" with no A/C.

Eck.. would hope they would have some type of emergency cooling center set up .. problem is how would they inform peeps if they did.

Channel 2 KPRC is reporting that it may now be late tomorrow before power is restored. I still wonder what took out the transmission line. When it went down it took out the Conroe generating station and 2 others failed after that. I think we have a few members in that area.

While I have not been affected, my work was. Our online catalog went belly-up around 7:30 (when the power outage happened) and all of our online services went too. We tried to call to report the outage - to the district I.T. department (located in the Woodlands) and no one could figure out why no one was answering the phones. It was not until I got home that I saw what was going on.

Ick - bad time of the year for a power outage (although August would be worse, no?). Where I live, I have power outages almost every day. Last night after the power went off and on, my AC did not. I spent three hours with the temperature quickly rising before they came and reset the AC unit. The AC ran the entire night, just to cool the apartment back down to 80 degrees!! I can't imagine what it must be like up there tonight!! My sympathies!!

The outage hit close to Beaumont (according to the maps they've shown on the news), but not Beaumont specifically. I wonder how SG fared. Haven't seen a post from her since, but then again, I just started reading this morning.

According to a report this am high winds took down 16 transmission lines which in turn took down the generating stations, etc. Power is back on for almost all as of now. Almost 150,000 were without power at the heigth of the outage. Apparently they have rerouted most of the power in till they can get their repairs done and are asking their customers to conserve as much as possible till repairs are made.

I haven't seen a map and I didn't know it was that close to me. It's so hot outside...I'd live in my car if nobody around here had electricity.....until I ran out of gas.

I'm wondering if the missing girl (from Montgomery County) disappeared last night during the blackout or today. The Amber Alert was issued today, but that doesn't mean she didn't disappear earlier.
