I had an inguinal hernia repaired yesterday and man does it hurt! Today the pain has been really bad and I can barely move around. The pain meds help alot but they make me dizzy and groggy, I wish I didn't have to take them. Please keep me in your thoughts for a speedy recovery!

PTrackerLA - of course I'll say a prayer for you. Sounds painful! Take it easy and hopefully soon the pain will lift. I've had a few abdominal surgeries (colon) so I know how very painful this area can be. The pain literally takes your breath away! Best advice I can give you is to keep moving. Just a little each day. Walk around your home, out to the mailbox. Nothing strenuous, just slow walking. Makes the healing go faster. Good luck to you! And oh, those pain pills are great aren't they? I had the strangest dreams when I took Percoset.....LOL Yikes! Took care of the pain but I was in la-la Land there for 4 hours until the next pill kicked in!

Been there when I was 16; you will be able to walk "normally" in about 3-5 months, but expect some "pulling" pains and tenderness at the site of the incision for awhile...especially if you are exerting yourself. In my case, it took 5 years for these last to subside (not helped at all by carrying handguns on the hip for two of those years).

Follow the doctors advice. Don't think you'll have any problem in understanding the word "pain" after this.

Recovery takes a while...but it will eventually take place.

Wish you the best...and most painfree...it can be.

My mother had bilateral hernia repair a couple years ago and one of my brother's had a hernia several years ago. So, I have an idea on what you are going through, PTrackerLA.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. The soreness is less severe today although it's still very painful to move around. Hopefully the doctor was right when he said I will be pretty much back to normal in 4-6 weeks (with the exception of not being able to lift anything over 15 lbs for 3 months). He also said I'll probably be able to go back to work (desk job) by Thursday of next week. I just wish we had some weather to watch around here because it would make the time pass better.

Just get some rest and let yourself heal! I can only imagine the pain - I've never had one and I hopefully never will! :o I'm sorry that you're going through this.

The prayers must be working because I feel much better this evening. I can walk around slowly without much pain now (although I'm still on the pain med.) Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to ween myself off of them. It's been kinda nice to relax inside with it being so hot outside. Time to pop in another move

PTracker, I went thru the same procedure last year and Im in my 50s.
Plus my surgeon repaired an existing hernia under my navel which would
have given me trouble later. I know the pain but stick it out friend. You
will get thru it. And do NOT return to work before your doc tells you. Just
wonder if you were deforested like me :)
