LAKE RAY ROBERTS, Texas -- A University of North Texas student died Friday night after trying to save a struggling swimmer at Lake Ray Roberts, NBC 5 News reported.

A 25-year-old man was reportedly swimming at the lake Friday evening when he encountered difficulty.

A group of young people was nearby and dove into the water to help the man.

Although the group was able to pull the swimmer to safety, one of the rescuers apparently drowned.

The victim's body was recovered Saturday morning, NBC 5 News reported. He has not yet been publicly identified.

The rescued man is being treated at a local hospital.

There's no greater sacrifice than giving your life trying to help someone else. Tragic but heroic at the same time! My thoughts are with the students family! May God grant them peace! :-)

That's why you don't go in after a person actively drowning. We teach the kids that on a regular basis at the YMCAs. Even the most experienced swimmers could fall victim to the struggle of an actively drowning victim.
