Boy Toys

Dennis' thread about HDTV seemed to indicate that some of us guys like our big boy toys like big screen TV's, surround sound, cars, boats, motorcycles, 4 x 4's, powersaws, and computer monitors so flat we can slide them between the doors when they are closed.

Guys...what's your dream "boy toy" at the moment?

And gals, what does your hubby or significant other have his eye on (besides you of course) and do you have bargaining power in the process.

In other words, if he's going to get that 500 watt surround sound system, do you get that nice addition to your wardrobe you've been thinking about? Or a cruise? Or is it a 10 to one ratio? For every $100 he spends, you get $10?

Should be some interesting stories here.

At the moment, my "boy toy" would be a wireless laptop that I could take around the house and still stay hooked up on the internet...without wires!

I'd also love that wireless weather station complete with wind equipment set up here at the house.

So let's hear some other stories.

I'm a lucky girl...If I see a cruise I want to take, Brian is just as excited as me to book it and go! We both enjoy spending our free time together, putzing around antique stores, and furniture stores, and we always are in agreement that "This is the piece we HAVE to have for the house"! Theres really no competition in our house for toys...we see it, we agree and we buy it! I'm really lucky that our intrests sway to the same side...we'd rather take a trip some place exotic, then buy a big screen tv, or we'd both rather go camping with the kids for the weekend, then go to a concert, or we'd both rather buy a fabulous old antique sideboard, then have high speed internet....I am BLESSED with the perfect match for my mate!

I'd also love to have a fully equipped wireless weather station here at my home....as well as a new computer with "always connected fast access"..

I wouldn't turn down a new pickup truck or SUV with "more power" either

I got my toys before I was married (at the age of 32) Now it's all I can do to keep them maintained. The only toys that I really treasure are my bikes. I have to troll ebay to find parts that aren't made any more. The computer (with cable modem) is a family toy. The CD player died, so that will be an excuse to get a CD R/W. Money is tight and the kids always need new shoes or something. My dreams are not having things, but doing things. Someday I'd like to take a train to the west coast and bike it back. I'll try to keep my health for another 10 years till the kids are grown up.

There are some things on my "wanna" list...Russia has recently released some captured, pristine WW II German K98K rifles, some with old Reichswehr proofs (pre-Nazi) that I'd love to own; along with equally VG-EXC Moisin-Nagant 91-30 rifles which were the workhorses of the Russian military machine.

It is worth notice that I have craved an original, pre-1938 K98K since I was 13, but never had the pleasure of owning one; although I have restored and handled several of this model, including one issued in 1935 to the German Post Office (?) as a means of rearming to circumvent the Versailles Treaty provisions (a very rare and expensive piece, too!).

But my primary "dream toy" would be a "Memphis Novelty Works" Confederate Officer's cavalry saber, of which there are excellent, better-than-original reproductions being made and available through several suppliers. It's commonly called the "Jo Shelby" saber, after a CS general who had one. This piece has "family" importance to me, as my great-great-grandfather carried this type at Pittsburg Landing ("Shiloh Meeting House" to all you Yankees) in 1862, and refused to surrender it at war's end.

No chance of obtaining any of these, but I can dream...

I'm finally giving in and buying a DVD player with VCR. I don't have much time for toys but I like a good movie every now and then.

I am pretty much set up with whatever i have wanted. have a god lady around the house to give me the permission to spend my $$. My favorite is the Harley in the Garage. I could use a newer surround sound system, mine is one of the originals.

While I have a rain gauge, barograph, mercury and aneroid barometers, 2 wireless temp sensors, and a Computemp max min thermometer, I, like most of you, would like a weather station with wind equipment again.

My neighbor down the street has one, and every time I walk by the house I wish I had that thing hooked up here.

There is something about wind equipment that intrigues every serious weather observer....and makes him drool just thinking about it.

WELL SAID!

That is how I see things too.

My husband is like "inspector gadget" he loves new technology... He is very good though, and wont buy unless it is beneficial to us as a family. He loves walking around best buy and radio shack, if it has buttons he loves pushing them all  Even in the kids toy aisle.

For well-known reasons, "doing things" is no longer on my agenda...therefore, "acquisitions" is what I have left.

Well hubby and me both have our toys. His are more expensive since he is building a 1975 chevy luv truck that will go really FAST. He lets me spend money when I want things. Remember Mr. Bush's refund to us a couple of years ago - I got weather station - but it never lived up to its full potential - disappointed me.

Hmm... no car for me in the near future. I really don't want to drive, but I gots to. Lol. I'd want a "weather station" of somekind. A new computer. Other random stuff. My significant other... hmm, seeing as I have no significant other at the current time, can't tell you. BUT, the girl I talk to the most(Isabella) wants to be in a play this summer. My friend(in almost the same play, same rehersal, diff. play) and me will go see her, if she makes the cut.
