IS THIS THING ON?
Gov. Rick Perry is hardly the first politician to have an embarrassing comment caught on tape. Some other famous examples:
•Ronald Reagan, 1984: Before delivering his weekly radio address, the president joked: "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you we have signed legislation today that would outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."
•George W. Bush, 2000: A microphone at a campaign rally picked up Mr. Bush calling a reporter a "major league [expletive] from The New York Times."
•John Kerry, 2004: The Democratic presidential candidate was recorded saying of Republicans: "These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group I've ever seen. It's scary."
