Breeze... HELP (powdery mildew)

#1 Postby Amanzi » Tue Jun 03, 2003 8:43 am

Breeze. I have a question for you, or anyone else who may know. I have really beautiful Zinnias this year, giants and lilliputs. Anyway, I have treated them with Sevin, as i had a grasshopper issue and they nearly got wiped out, they are coming back to life now and the blooms are huge. I noticed yesterday though that the leaves seem to be getting mildew on them... HELP. What do you suggest I do to help get rid of it???

Bron, Ortho makes a spray for powdery mildew called
Ortho Multi-Purpose Fungicide Daconil - the powdery
mildew is actually a fungus that can grow on plants that
either get too much water or too much sun. You should
be able to buy it at any Co-Op or garden center. Be careful
about touching the affected plants and then touching healthy
plants, as, you can spread fungus spores to the healthy
ones.

Good luck! Let me know if they "perk" up!

Thanks Breeze.

As you know I am moving from this house I am in right now, but I am taking most of my flowers with me. I will get some Ortho and try to get rid of it before I move.

You should see the size of some of the blooms I have! I am so proud of them, my marigolds this year are the size of baseballs! I hope they survive the transplant.

I will let you know how they "feel" and thanks for the help :)

Bron, your marigolds sound beautiful! And, just think -
you are going to have fun planting them in your new lawn!
I moved here in December, so, I am enjoying planning
the landscaping, as well. I think I have put out everything that
I can manage, for now, but, come autumn - look out! :ggreen:

my daconil bottle doesn't list powdery mildew, but my bayleton fungicide does. if you have problems with this disease, you might look for bayleton, as it works systemically, being absorbed into the leaves of the plants. i use it on my goldflame honeysuckle, which seems prone to powdery mildew attacks every year.
