MANASSAS, Va. (Court TV) — A University of Virginia freshman linebacker has been charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
On May 17, Ahmad Brooks was riding in a car pulled over for speeding. The officer noticed marijuana smoke coming from the vehicle, according to police.
Football coach Al Groh hasn't commented on Brooks' status with the team or whether the freshman will face disciplinary action, said UVA sports information director Rich Murray.
Brooks, 19, was named the USA Today high school defensive player of the year in 2001. He attended Hargrave Military Academy last fall and enrolled in UVA in January.
