As if the racial tensions on this mountain isn't bad enough after the Rodeo Chediski Fire last year, the Az Supreme Court has found Leanord Gregg competent to stand trail. This story broke this morning and there is talk already of HIGH racial tensions between the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the communities of Pinetop/Lakeside, Show Low........why? Leonard is going to trail while Valinda Jo Elliott is STILL walking free :grr:

Dennis not to rock the boat here but that Gregg fella needs to be held accountable for his actions. His intent on that fire was to make money. Her intent was to be rescued. The two cases are not the same even though the fires were deadly and costly. I should be outraged at the racial part of it because I am half Indian. But facts are facts and in this case it is not the skin color. JMO

Quick edit.... prosecutors will not seek an indictment against a person unless they have a sound case and KNOW they can win.

Depends Upon Where the Prosecutors

are located at-the ones in CA and specifically the LAX area don't do so good. The thing about Valinda is that she was ILLEGALLY hiking in an area closed to the Public due to the Fire Danger and had been chased out of the area with her companion at least once before so she KNEW she didn't belong there-that makes her a culpable as Gregg.

Oh thanks for clearing that up. That news article did not elaborate on any of that.

If that is the case then she should surely be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I understand well about the prosecutors of California. OJ comes to mind when I think about one. lol.

I fully agree Lindaloo, Leonard IS as guilty as Valinda and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, what REALLY ticks me off is the fact, like Steve said, she was tresspassing on federal land and yet the Az AG let her walk, THAT'S what has ruffled everyones feathers, tribal and non tribal members alike, all I can say is that SHE has to live with what she did for the rest of her life, she lives in fear 365/24/7's, constantly watching her back, THAT my friends "IS" payback!

I did not know the facts concerning Valinda Elliott. They could have at least taken another avenue of the law to seek an indictment against her. Per say criminal trespassing? Then upon conviction seek an indictment against her for the fires. This is purely unbelievable!!!!

The WMAT has/is/still filing criminal tresspassing, endangerment and numerous other charges. Being with the White Mountain Apache Police Dept now, we've found out MORE *stuff* that this woman and her *boss* did, this is FAR from over but with the WMAT filing the charges in federal court, you know how the feds work, it could take YEARS for anything to come out of this case.

Yeppers Dennis I know how slow the feds and the government are until you owe them money. LOL!!

Let's hope the public outcry of discontent over all this will be heard and something done.

"LOL Lindaloo!" Ain't THAT the truth, your 1/2 day late on paying your taxes and they're THERE knockin' at your door, sometimes TAKING down the door, your considered a *criminal* if your late on your taxes!

I remember you discussing the case of Valinda Elliot last year on TWC. I really don't understand the double standard myself either.

Yep, it's all over the news down here too. Channel 15 has been
airing 'Wildfire' segments every day this whole week. They
are currently showing the reseeding efforts, etc. and also
discussing the Rodeo-Chedeski perps. Yes Dennis, that was her
"boss" so wonder what HE paid to squelch the accountability....
