Who would have ever thought that cheesy show with the bad wardrobe would turn into an institution?
Mourn his passing by celebrating his life:

So...out of the original cast, we have William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk), Leonard Nimoy (Commander Spock), Nichelle Nichols (Lt. Uhura), George Takei (Lt. Sulu), and Walter Koenig (Ensign Pavel Chekhov) remaining.
An' that would be the "Glenlivet", laddie...auldest single malt Scotch in the univairse!
Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott is home.

Does Majel Barrett count as part of the original cast?

Yes, as "Nurse Chapel" and as the voice of the computer; she was also creator Gene Roddenberry's wife, if memory serves.

Strangely, I thought she passed away, too...maybe I'm wrong.

It's not on imdb.com. But the problem with imdb.com is that it's primarily fan-submitted information, so it's not always correct. Although I find it hard to believe a show with such a cult following as ST wouldn't have complete details (with so many people who could make correction). Heck, "Xena" is half the show ST was (if even that) and fans are on it left and right add and correcting submissions for all the stars before I can even blink.
Checking further, I think she's still alive, but Gene isn't.

Maybe it was one of her primary characters who died?

I remember crying when the original show ended. I waited in line for three hours to see the first motion picture. Rest in peace Scotty.
