Got gas or electric cooking stove, water heater, heat? I've got GAS I mean PROPANE!! I CANNOT COOK on electric ranges, I've tried it.......IMHO, GAS is FAR better than electric to cook with.

Oh, and I was about to suggest GAS-X.

I've got electric at this house but I prefer gas. And I recently bought a smooth surface cooktop...still trying to get used to that.

I have a natural gas stove and hot water heater. My central heat is electric. When I visit my sister I use her smooth top electric and I manage to burn stuff where I normally don't on a gas stove. lol.

Whew, thought this would be another rant about gas prices. Yeah I have gas though.

When I was growing up, there was a propane company named "Peoples Natural Gas." We got a lot of laughs about that.

Gas is more reliable - in more ways than one!

My brother and I used to laugh about that too - there was a plant a couple of miles down the road from us, and we always cracked up when one of their trucks drove by as we were waiting for the bus. I had forgotten that until you mentioned it.

I learned to cook and bake with electric. So it would be an adjustment if I had to switch. But I would give it a try.

My first mother-in-law had a gas stove and she swore by it. She was a freeze cat like I am and would hang by the stove all day long in her drafty house (winter of course, ,). Keep a kettle going for hot tea, have a cake in the oven or better, a slow roasted pot roast or chicken. She said gas roasted better than electric.

Not sure if those are accurate advantages. But I'm always envious of how you can still cook and bake in a power failure, and over here we're carring out dinner. LOL Wait, if I had gas, I'd have to cook.....maybe I should correct that!

Dennis - tell me, is it a more even heat and do baked items come out better?

PS - well you did ask for it Dennis....

PSS - seriously though, I have the old fashioned electric burners. Which are a pain to clean I know. I think I'd be dangerous around a smoothtop!

Actually the smoothtops are just as much of a pain to keep clean. Every single spot shows. I was a cleaning fanatic about my burners and I'm even worse with the smoothtop. You have to use special cleaning products and even one spash will show up like a sore thumb. Give me a good old campfire!!!!

Or better yet....order carryout!!! (We try not to do that though, one of our family rules).

I use my stovetop to put the iron when it's cooling or other hot dishes, from the oven. I think I'll pass on the smoothtop!
