KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A burned out car led Kansas City police to a mysterious discovery -- a body inside.
Homicide investigators called it a suspicious death.
At about 9 a.m. Friday, Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department mowers found the car smoldering car on 87th Street and Blue River Road.
There was an unidentifiable body in the car. Police didn't say exactly where the body was inside the car.
Bomb and arson investigators checked for accelerants in and around the car. Their findings weren't immediately released.
"There's a body in the car. We're not sure whether (it's) male or female," said Capt. Rich Lockhart, of the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department. "The car itself, the color is completely burned off of it. Everything's pretty much burned beyond recognition. It's a mid-sized, four-door vehicle. I think it's a Pontiac Grand Am."
Anyone who knew anyone driving a Pontiac Grand Am on Blue River Road Friday morning was asked to call police.

Never heard this on the local news! Hmm.... just last week my friends jeep was stolen and set ablaze. It's sad what people do these days.

David, would news stories in the Kansas City, Missouri area regularly be reported in the Topeka, Kansas market?

I know that the opposite is occasionally true Tom. Some Topeka stories make it on the KC stations, but only if it is something pretty siginificant.

Okay, thank you Garrett. The viewing areas of the central United States can understandably be different than New England and Florida.

Topeka and K.C. are relatively close together, therefore stories tend to overlap some, especially if it is a big story. The same is true where I live. If something big happens in Joplin, even though their own stations cover it, Springfield stations cover it too.

Tucson has KC beat-last week a burned out car was found near Tucson with TWO bodies in it-they are still investigating that one. Then two nights ago, TIA airport police saw a fire in an open area near the airport and a car speeding away. They stopped the car, and called the Fire department who found a burning mattress in the desert with a burned body underneath. The four individuals in the speeding car have been charged with Murder One. The two in the burned out car have been identified as Mexican Nationals legally living in Tucson and the four arrested are gang bangers.
