Independence Day Plans - July 4, 2003

And what plans might you have for Independence Day, 2003! Unlike many of them, this one actually falls on a weekend. I have not had a 4th of July off work for at least 7 years...but this year I get one.
Family and friends will be joining us for a cookout and short afternoon swim party (not too much sun, though). Emma's inaugural voyage in the pool!
We're staying with Em at night so the family can check out fireworks. Little ones the size of our granddaughter usually cry through the entire show...so we're passing it up this year.
Any special plans for you and your friends or family?
Here's some fireworks for you...legal ones, I think! Be sure to turn on your speakers.

I'm not exactly sure yet azskyman...
The 4th is also my grandmother's 90th birthday...so it will be more special than ever.
I was invited to be a part of the local Douglasville parade (by the Douglas County Commission Chairperson...a friend of mine); but I decided against it...for two reasons:
1) I'd much rather watch the parade with my grandmother on her birthday than walking in a parade handing out campaign literature..
2) there's a very good possibility my friend Eric Horner and his wife Debby (gospel/ patriotic singers) will be special guests in the Salute to America parade in Atlanta (they were invited by the parade committee)...
I doubt I'll try to attend the parade in downtown Atlanta...but if Eric & Debby are here, I'm inviting them to come by our house afterwords to help us celebrate Granny's 90th birthday (all the cake and ice cream they can eat

...then I'll take everyone out to dinner, and then we'll all enjoy the fantastic 4th of July fireworks display here in Douglasville (and it is awesome!!).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed
God Bless,
Perry

OH YES! Our friends from Tucson are taking the month of July off and well be here, this was their idea, a "neighborhood BLOCK PARTY!" WooooHooooo! We've got the permit from the Pinetop PD to close off our street, so far, everyone on the block has commited PLUS a few other neighbors, let's see, with kids etc. that makes for 26 ppl! Burgers, dogs, tater salad, baked beans and copious amounts of brew!

A 3-day weekend for me!!!! Yippee - ready for some more time off. On Friday - going to finish laying down the tile in the gameroom and grout it - so that project will be complete. Then the rest of the weekend will be for relaxation - eating my hubby's barbeque and swimming in my daughter's pool!!!!!
And maybe we will have some tropical action to watch during this 3 days off.

Nothing special here...except possibly preparing coppertop's luggage and taking him to STL to leave with my sister for his annual summer trip to NJ (plans for the date and time have not been finalized at this time, but "Aunt" Jan will be in STL next week, so...???).

Looks like my employers don't think of the 4th as a holiday.

I'll get home hopefully early (please God). Probably won't see the fireworks though. I'll have to be back at work at 5am Sat. morning. :o Might go to the beach, but then there's always sea lice.

We're spending the week in Vail, CO with my sister-in-law and family. They got a time share for the week and invited us. Leaving Thurs 6/26 - returning Sat 7/5.
Can't wait!! I've never seen the Rockies! Also looking forward to experiencing 700 mb pressure!

Debbie, what in the heck are sea lice? I've been to Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade county beaches a few times, but have fortunately avoided sea lice so far (they sound awful).

Microscopic jellyfish. They get between your bathing suit and your skin and itch like crazy.
They have a season here. Maybe they'll be gone by then. Seems like it's April thru June. I'm not sure though.

I haven't done anything too excited on July 4th the last three years, since living in Florida away from my family. There isn't really any place my parents are interested in going to see fireworks. It isn't a big deal for me "missing them."
Over the years I used to, some years, watch fireworks at a few places... but usually just watched the festivities on television.
