Oath of Enlistment....

Just as Mike and Aaron are on their way home, I took a giant leap to offer my services to the USAF Reserves. :D Tuesday night and Wednesday morning the butterflies were horrible....not to mention, barely holding anything down. My recruiter was on base here in Milwaukee (General Mitchell 440th Wing), already when I arrived...and he was patiently waiting for me....He just knew I was going to be early...and I was... Enlistment was scheduled to start at 1030, but I was there at 1020. The guys at the gate were razzing me from the get go...they were pretty interesting guys! "Don't Do It...join the Army" Both men at the gate were Army guys. I just had to laugh. Mary, the secretary at the recruiting office knew who I was....She's like Shannon, come on back. He and I had to stop at Base numerous times throughout this whole ordeal to get my medical papers faxed down to Waivers. My recruiter's boss was surprised that I mentioned this was the first time I saw him Cayer in his Blues!

I learned how to sign my FULL name!!! And to initial all 3 letters of my name. (LOL) I had to be fingerprinted....one of the guys in the office commented "Don't pick your nose, because we can tell if you did!" LOL. Anyways, Commander Martz swore me in and my recruiter was standing right behind me....needless to say, I just concentrated on the words, and the butterflies seemed to magically disappear. Afterwards, both were like...Yes, we have another one! Congrats!!!! :D :D Ironically, once I took the oath of enlistment, the butterflies went away...all those butterflies for a 30 second swearing in ceremony.

We then went out for lunch since the base basically shuts down from 1100 to 1130. Back to in-process...oh joy...some parts were boring, but other than that...tricks of the trade were presented. (Like tricks the TI's will pull to get you to do something).

My recruiter gave me plenty of USAF Reserve merchandise....including a L and XL t-shirt....um, I wear mediums! I'll wear then for pj's if I have to...first I'll see how much the shirts will shrink in the dryer.

Needless to say, I was out by 1300...but had to drive up to Green Bay for a plasma appt at 1515, and then for class at 1800. Drove back to Milwaukee after class, avoiding the nasty thunderstorms on the way. It's been a LONG day...I almost stayed in Menasha for the night, but when class let out 45 minutes early, I was like...what the hey, drive down to Milwaukee. Was back around 2230...and trying to relax.

A big step! Sounds like it went well. Life as you knew it is about to change...for the better of course.

Don't let those guys worry you Shannon...I think they are fibbing. I've fingerprinted quite a few men and women (part of the process of hiring them as security officers)...and never could tell who picked their nose and who didn't

Congratulations Shannon....Best wishes from metro Atlanta, GA!! :)

May God Bless,
Perry

Wear the so-noted "oversized" T-shirts...when you arrive at your BMTS, you'll understand...and appreciate the loose fit all the more!

And, for the record, I was sworn in by 1 LT Duane E. Hensley, USMC...and don't ask me WHY I remember such meaningless minutiae... :?:

I've known military time for a long time...we learned it back in HS, and for some odd reason it stuck in my head.

Thanks for the congratulatory matter :D Its been a long wait for my paperwork to go through. I feel I made the right decision to pursue this career change. All my family members were glad everything is working out.
