I was curious as to how you get your "zone". I have noticed several people have them in the sig. line or underneath their location. How do I find out what mine is and what does that let me know?

Thanks!

Various garden websites, and I think TWC has maps that discuss your "zone".

Great question!

This info is taken from a "Plant Hardiness Zone Map" that took many years for the experts to figure out! The ability of a plant to withstand certain temps and growing conditions is what determines the zone it will grow in. Here's a link that will show a map;

http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html?

You'll notice that the surface of our earth makes the zones very interesting! Hope this helps.......p :wink:

Great link, petal*pusher! Also, when you order kaboodles of seeds
and plants from garden catalogs, you just KNOW your zone...:ggreen:

Knowing your correct zone is important when buying plants. Occasionally I'll find a plant at one of my local plant places that doesn't even grow in the zone it's being sold in. I'm not sure how or why a business would purchase plants that don't grow in the local zone, but it does happen.

There is also a heat zone map, too. This is so you can buy plants that won't fry in the summer. I bought the book last year and use it a LOT.
