When you go grocery shopping which do you use, paper or plastic? We TRY to use paper as much as we can, it's a renewable resource PLUS paper bags are GREAT for other things!

I'm never given the choice - I always get plastic!

Plastic most times. They too are good for other things, I save them and use them for garbage bags in my bathrooms, and in my van. Also use to send things off for the girls to school or nanas.

One of my major grocery store pet peeves is how they always seem to push plastic. And THEN they put one item in one bag, i.e. one box of cereal, large size gets it's own bag. Ugh. I ask that they not bag large items, such as 5 or 10 lb. bags of potatoes or gallons of milk. Plastic is okay, since I errrr, uh use them later for a nasty reason (own a Golden).
But I prefer paper, since we recycle about 75% of our weekly garbage. I break it all down, using paper bags, by week's end I have about a dozen at the curb, since only 2 fit inside our recycling bin.

I've only seen plastic bags at our stores. Some grocery stores hand out nylon bags once in a while, you can use them instead.

We USED to get a choice, but, no more. It's plastic. So,
I reuse the heck out of them. Eventually, I know, they'll
end up in a landfill, and, thousands of years from now,
archaeologists will dig up all of our plastic before they ever
find any of us! We'll be the "Plasteolithic" Era...

Some of the stores here have bins where you can return the plastic bags for recycling and reuse so that' what I do with the plastic bags I don't use for other things. The newspapers I totally recycle and the local newspaper is printed on 100% recycled newsprint.

I can't believe so many of you say you don't have a choice. Even though I get plastic, if I didn't have a choice I would want the paper. lol. I thought we all had a choice. And that last little comment breeze about the "Plasteolithic Era"

Too funny. But so true we are definitley all about the plastic these days.

Plastic, since it has so many uses, plus most supermarkets here (except for Henry's) don't offer paper bags, so we're accustomed to it anyway.

Our stores use plastic unless you ask for paper. Once in a while I'll ask for paper because they're good for recycling newspapers.
I learned real fast that they're not acceptable to make book covers for school. (Kids today - so spoiled!)
We save all the plastic bags and attempt to re-use them. They make good liners for small trash cans or are good for other messes.
This is gross, but I put them on my hand like a sort of glove, when it's time to pick up the doggy doo outside. It works better than the pooper picker upper we got at the hardware store.

Same here Ed - your last use of plastic, is my method too. They work better than the thick plastic bags the park provides too. Actually I prefer the clear produce bags for this purpose, b/c they're not bulky and fit in my pockets easily. Of course the kids are grossed out b/c they can see it! LOL I always say better to be in a bag than on your shoe!

LOL Mary, and you can peel it off backwards, so the "stuff" ends up on the inside, twist it, and trash it. No muss, No fuss

Ed - yup, first time I saw someone at the park pick up what my brother calls "landmines" I thought, hey neat, I have a bag full of those bags just sitting in the garage!
And I really hate the residue a scooper leaves. Yuck! If you scoop your hand low enough, in your own lawn, there is no residue. My next door neighbor picks up once a week - yes their yard and mine, their dog strays, is filled with 30+ weekly landmines - he uses one bag to scoop it all, into another bag. And when he's done he's smiles - I used 2 bags! Meanwhile, I prefer daily or every other day pickups, to be courteous, but that's a whole-nother story!!!!
