I hate internet shorthand.

What do you think of it? Discuss.

Edit: More specifically, I'm talking about extreme shorthand such as 'u', 'r', etc. Not acronyms.

Not a problem with me, I only use a few, the few that I know and is common. Like Eric just posted CIAO's, I don't know what that is. But BTW, LOL, and  I find useful.

Until recently I didn't know what CAIO meant either...but looked it up the other day and it's Italian for goodbye. :)

I like it! My college aged daughter laughs when I come up with my own, as in recently I typed T-giving. She said a few times, teegiving....cute mom!

Even though I like to type, abbreviations are too tempting.

I say them aloud for humor.

'whhhtttfff'
'lawl'
'raufl!'
'brrrrrbbuh'
'Ahmg!'

LOL
LMAO(goes with ROFL at times)
BTW
FWIW
FYI
J/K

That's about it... I'm not a fan of using "r" or "u" for words.

I tend to write everything out. Since I put so much thought into my words they deserve a full airing.

OK, so what's the short hand for a bronx cheer? Phlbt.

Frankly, I believe it unwittingly encourages semi-literacy by fomenting a form of "NewSpeak", which in turn will hinder younger people later in life; Aldous Huxley would be proud (read Brave New World).

Since I never took shorthand in H.S. typing class...my sister did...well, it's nice to be able to use computer shorthand lingo from time to time. :D

Took me a while to get used to the internet shorthand language, but I'm getting used to it now.

Amy, :)

I remember when my maintenance boss at a tire tread and repair products plant would leave notes tucked inside with my time card in the slot and he would say...Please see me B4 you start work. A co-worker of mine in maintenance and I always looked forward to those notes...which meant extra duties for the very hard workers that we were! :)

I believe that was the first time I ever saw the word before written that way.

I use them mainly because my brain works faster than my fingers and by the time my brain waves get to my fingers they're behind already! If i didn't use them i'd leave out entire words!!!! One that i semi use is prolly which is easier to type than probably. One thing i find i do most of all is not capitalize words within a sentence.

Well, years ago in my high school yearbooks we used abbreviations, RMA - remember me always, or 2 cute to be 4gotten. There were more but I forget some of them. Of course you have to realize that none of these are used today (or so my kids tell me!). Nina never types the word probably out, instead it's always - prolly. And she's a Journalism major. But somehow when she writes for real, she spells very well. So that's a good thing.
