The Dark Side of A Little More Jingle

Noticed my paycheck had a few more bucks in it this time. The tax cut finally caught up to me personally.
Seems that each time this has happened in the past, I have thought of this as "extra cash" to spend or invest or save or whatever.
Don't know if any of you might have had this experience, but the dark side of having a little more jingle in my pockets from tax cuts in the past has quickly translated into less withholding which then translated into a bigger tax liability the following year. What, no refund? I owe HOW much?
In other words, when I considered it as money to spend, I discovered by April 15th the following year that I now owed a bunch of it back.
So...ever since those experiences, I have tried to pretend that at least half of the newfound jingle (what's half of a quarter?) does not exist. I put it in a safe place until my taxes are calculated for the year. Then, and only then, do I consider it as jingle I can do something else with.
Anyone else have a similar experience, or are you considering it jingle you should spend right now to give the economy a boost?
