Just curious, how many own their homes or do you rent, lease or have a lease option?

Us, we own our home outright, I bought this little piece O' heaven 18 years ago, bought 1 acre with a OLD mobile home on it, worked on getting the landscape up to my standards, we pulled out the OLD mobile last March and bought a *modular home*, no, not a *manufactured home*. Now this is RIDICULOUS......we got our property tax assessment for the '04 tax year, hope you sitting down for this one............the assessed VALUE of this property is now "267,000K!" :o FOR WHAT????? Yes, it's a beautiful home with landscaping like you wouldn't believe but COME ON, 267K for a acre of land and a 1200 sq ft home  Like I said, I bought this property 18 yrs ago and I paid 24,000K for it, so.........in 18 years, the value has increased some 232,000$$$$$$$ , COME ON......there's something REALLY WRONG here don't you think?? :?:

I've tried to own a home for many many years. Best I can do is own a piece of it.

Property values are way out of whack in a lot of places...but the market seems to bear it.

Meanwhile...I've refinanced for the third time in six years trying to take a little more out of the bank's pocket and put a little bit more in mine.

I don't have to "worry" about this personally. I live with my parents and most likely going to live with my brother and sister-in-law when the time comes.

The real estate market in New England/the northeast is out of sight. Houses here in Florida vary a lot more. Retirement communities, such as the one I live in have affordable homes and then they go quite high, but not as high as houses where I used to live.

I am pretty sure, in most of Florida... houses are going for between what they do here in my town and what hey are in the northeastern United States.

Used to own a home when I lived in Arizona. Now, I rent. Property values in Key West are way out of wack and it's impossible for Joe Average to buy down here. One can expect to pay at least $400K for a small house here.

We rent this townhouse apartment...it's actually bigger than the house we had (1,550 sq. ft.), and the landlord does a bang-up job with repairs and maintenance. :D

I own my home outright. I just purchased (well the bank did it for me) 10 acres of land in the country and I am considering building a new home. My current home has 2800 SQ FT. I do not know its worth yet because I just added on and had an inground pool put in about 2 years ago. I have not had it appraised in about six years, but it is coming soon.

Pawlee... not only the property taxes but that darn homeowners insurance is ridiculous, especially if you live on any coast. (Which I do).

Dennis... I have seen pics of your home and it is just awesome. You have a beautiful home.

We own our home. We're getting ready to refinance again just to lower the payments one more time :-) We got lucky and bought our house 17 years ago when prices were pretty depresse din this area. It's tripled in value since then! WoooHooo! COmpared to the NorthEast, Housing in Florida is still cheap. That is, unless you want waterfront property! Then as Harry said look-out!

We own our home. It was the best decision that we ever made.

Except when property tax time comes around!

Chad and I bought our house a year and a half ago. I guess we were sick off throwing money away every month by paying rent. But now we have taxes and insurance and have to foot the bill for repairs. Hmmm, did we do the right thing? LOL. I guess we'll find out when we sell.

I rent from my brother - he's a great landlord! :ggreen:

We live side-by-side, and, I don't have to worry about
waiting on the "landlord" - he's there to repair things in
a flash! Plus, I have a nice 3-bedroom brick house with
3-bay carport and big yard, in return! We work together
to keep things in order, around here!

Exactly what I thought. Housing in the northeast has skyrocketed in only the last two years. The prices are out of sight in the town I lived in, in Massachusetts.

We are presently renting this home. We are working to get our ducks in a row to qualify for a mortgage.

Around here $100,000 still buys a lot of house. Finding work is the hard part.
