Az got me thinking when he posted about his bazillions of ladybugs. Some say it's a sign of a snowy,hard winter to come.I've learned to watch for signs of the season to come,such as the nut trees being loaded,animals starting to "gather" much earlier etc. This yr I've already noticed that my catalpa tree was completely covered in blooms,you couldn't even see the huge leaves on it ! The black walnut and the horsechestnut are both loaded w/ nuts. I stopped at my dads the other nite and noticed a tree that had seeds covering it,interesting considering it's never had seeds in the 13 yrs he's lived there ! His pine trees are laden w/ pinecones too,usually they only have a handful or so on them. Another old wives tale about weather... Some say if you have animals due(women too !) to give birth, watch for the barometer to drop.I've never tested this one myself!

What "old wives tales" about weather have you heard of ?? Do you believe in them ? I think there is some truth to a lot of those "tales".~K

In the Apache way of life, there are a LOT of old wives tales, some I've found out to be true. First, the height of wild sunflowers will be the depth of snow, same goes for the Wooley Mullen. Second, the thickness of the husk on the corn tells of a light/hard winter. Something I've noticed myself is our Labradors nose, Sweetz, her nose turns pink in the winter, black in the summer, now, it depends on when her nose turns pink, last fall, it turned around the middle of Sept and sure nuff, we had a decent winter, in the years past, her nose didn't turn until Dec. Hmmmm, makes ya wonder huh?
Ducks flying south early means a hard winter, skunks denning up early means a hard winter.......who needs TWC, all we need to do is watch our animals "LOL!"
