Old wives tales about weather...

Az got me thinking when he posted about his bazillions of ladybugs. Some say it's a sign of a snowy, hard winter to come.I've learned to watch for signs of the season to come, such as the nut trees being loaded, animals starting to "gather" much earlier etc. This yr I've already noticed that my catalpa tree was completely covered in blooms, you couldn't even see the huge leaves on it ! The black walnut and the horsechestnut are both loaded w/ nuts. I stopped at my dads the other nite and noticed a tree that had seeds covering it,interesting considering it's never had seeds in the 13 yrs he's lived there ! His pine trees are laden w/ pinecones too, usually they only have a handful or so on them. Another old wives tale about weather... Some say if you have animals due(women too !) to give birth, watch for the barometer to drop.I've never tested this one myself!
What "old wives tales" about weather have you heard of ?? Do you believe in them ? I think there is some truth to a lot of those "tales".~K
