Some of our Storm2k friends are experiencing Tropical Storm Bill as I write this. For most of us, a tropical storm might not be enough for us to consider a move, but maybe a powerful hurricane might be.

Or maybe an earthquake. How about too much traffic at your corner? If they built a school next door? If I found a nest of black widows in my house? Neighbors who sell drugs?

Kathy always told me if we bought this house and had a scorpion problem, we'd be moving for sure. So far only one scorpion, and he was dead in the pool skimmer. Jarrod, our son, actually moved out of an apartment complex because he hated the scorpions he found in the place.

Also...having lived through an F4 tornado...she would never move to a place where tornadoes were MORE prevalent than Illinois.

So what would be the straw to break your back...and make you decide maybe you should find another place to live.

What a great question. I think the breaking point for me would be crime/drugs. If I didn't feel safe in a neighborhood I would not live there. Also... if I found a copperhead nearby I would be gone. :o

Hmm that is a tough one for me to answer. Why? Because I have managed to survive a CAT 5, 2 CAT3's and a CAT 2 hurricane, Izzy, Lili and now Bill's torrential rains. My home sustained no damage from any of them. I know I was not living in this house during Camille nor Frederic but it was built in 1943 and there is no record of it being damaged. lol.

I am moving to the country after Christmas anyway to escape the high insurance rates and property taxes. So I guess I answered my own question. The last straw is house insurance rates and property taxes. lol.

There was a hurricane Izzy? I never knew that! Anyone have the info page on it?

I miss the "Great White North" (North Dakota/Minnesota)...no crime, clean streets, well-maintained homes, excellent schools/colleges, and the highest per-capita educational levels and longevity in the USA.

The only drawback (for some here) would be blizzards, extreme cold and "Norwinglish" ("Uff-da, dot's a lotta money, dere! Yew tink yew can afford it? By golly, my vife vood haf a fit if I vantet to spend dot mooch!")...but I can live with it.

Crime is always a consideration.....as are drugs (which means crime).

In all honesty, I am definitely planning to move to the Central Oregon Coast someday...to be closer to my sis and her three precious angels. I'd go now if Granny would also....in addition to Becky and the kids, the older I get..the LESS I enjoy the steam heat and humidity of Georgia summers. I was spoiled when visiting sis and her family in July 1999...and enjoying the nice, comfortable days like we have here in early May.

As an asthma patient, Atlanta's summer heat/humidity and high ozone are also a major hassle for me.....Pacific Ocean sea breezes would be far easier to take.

I'm not afraid of severe storms...one reason I'm eyeing the Oregon Coast as my home and not Portland. I'd love to witness those occasional 70-90 mph ocean storms. Heck, I lived in Madison County, Mississippi for almost a year, and the occasional severe storm and tornado chasing opportunities were one of the positives I loved about living there....so tornadoes are no turn off to me...nor hurricanes.

Before Becky and Dave relocated from Mississippi to Oregon in 97', I was strongly considering an eventual and permanent move to a southeastern coastal area (Ft Myers/Naples, New Smyrna Beach, and Panama City, FL....St Simon's Island, GA...Myrtle Beach, SC...and the Mississippi Gulf Coast were all high on my list of considerations).

I was referring to the tropical storms David. Izzy= Isidore(sp) lol. I have called it Izzy for so long I forgot how to spell it.

Ah, so they haven't used Isabella yet? Yay. It'll be used when i'm older. Lol. I guess people use diff. nicknames for diff. names.

Well, it would take a pack of mules to make ol snowman move from *Paradise* however...........I think another Rodeo Chediski Fire within the city limits *might* make me think twice about leaving. There's no place on earth like Pinetop, no better neighbors, no better police force IMHO anywhere. Even with the huge increase in population up here, yes.....we've been discovered, I can still jump in the pickup, drive 2 miles outta town and NOT see another human for miles and miles. I don't know....this is a tough question.

High taxes and/or deteriorization of the neighborhood would make me think about it.

Lots of crime/drugs, etc, would make me want to think about it... :o :o :o I'm in a pretty safe town... very little town, too.

I've moved a lot, so I really can't say. I've lived in 3 different states and another country. Right now I'm in Upstate NY. I guess the cold and the snow could get to some people, but it doesn't really bother me.

The cold and snow got to me nystate. After 50 years of shoveling and snowblowing and all four of us family members wrecking cars in the winter...I moved to Arizona! Now I go to art fairs in the winter and have my snow measuring stick hanging on the wall of my office as a decoration!

On the other hand...the down side...it was 110 again today. Not only would the snow melt if it was here, but so do I.

I'd move if we flooded again. But then again, I may be stuck with the house since no one might not want it if it flooded twice.

Maybe if my house was completely destroyed, I might move! Also, I would consider moving if I won a lottery of more than a few million dollars.
