ABC'S EXTREME MAKEOVER IN BOYNTON BEACH, FL!

As city manager of Boynton Beach, my husband Kurt received official confirmation late Friday from the producers that the ABC show "Extreme Makeover - Home Edition" will reconstruct our Little League field, which was destroyed by Hurricane Wilma last September. The field is home of the 2003 National Little League Champions and many, many players over the years. The crew arrives this morning (Saturday Feb.4). In addition to the Mayor --who will be in the opening "Braveheart" scene of the show-- and commissioners, a few City staff members may be appearing. Kurt, plus a number of City staff, has been working very hard behind the scenes for the past several weeks to make this makeover possible.
Access to the site will be limited until the filming is completed. Work will continue literally around the clock to finish on time. Details are being worked out on the "unveiling" of the new park scheduled for Wednesday, February 8th. The show normally broadcasts at 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. I'll have a better idea on when our segment will air in a few days.
For those unfamiliar with the show, each week features a very moving and exciting reconstruction of a home that has been damaged or otherwise impacted. The home is selected on the basis of need or merit of the occupants. In our case, the selection of the East Boynton Beach Little League as the "family" and our park as the "home" is unique.
The producers were adamant that the Little League organization be completely surprised. Only a few City staffers were "in the loop" during the final selection deliberations.
Here's the link to the show. Boynton Beach will be on national TV soon!
