Below is a quote from a local paper about "Blanko's" opening remarks to the legislature Monday. She is going from begging for more money to threatening to not renew oil and gas leases. In My opinion she has to go!!!!!!

"Blanco is playing hardball with the federal government in her fight for 50 percent of the oil and gas royalties the federal government collects from oil and gas drilling off Louisiana’s coast. She is threatening to block the August sale of offshore oil and gas leases."

This is *just* my opinion, but Blanco is probably just fed up with the fact that she can get barely any money from the Federal Government to help rebuild Louisiana. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I listened to her speech on NPR this morning. I dont live in Louisiana, so I dont have to put up with the politics there, but I think she's right on the money with this one. It's a sad state of affairs when Bagdad is in better shape than Louisiana.

On the bright side, maybe this willo keep the feds from trying to steal territory from Florida to give it to Louisiana.

My problem with the Blanco Administration is that she is constantly asking for more money but has yet to come up with a viable plan to spend the money already allocated. Why should the Feds give La. more money when they don't know how to spend the money they already have.

Huh?

That's one way of looking at it, but think about it this way.

Say your roof is destroyed by the winds of a hurricane, your roofer says it will cost $8K to replace it, and your insurance company only pays $2K, would you try to get more money from the insurance company or try to find a roofer that will replace the roof for 2K. I think most folks are gonna press for more money.

That's what she's doing. Whatever funding the feds have offered up is a mere drop in the bucket compared to what's needed. Remember that tax revenues are going to be significantly reduced for at least a couple of years.

Here is a story on it

Basically President Bush decided he doesn't like Florida's ban on drilling in its territory and handed a large chunk of Florida territory in the Gulf to Louisiana, which tends to be more amenable to mucking up their coastline with oil.

It's not a stretch at all. It's been no secret that this administration wants to open drilling in Florida (hint: look at Alaska in ANWR). Now they have granted a big portion of Florida's gulf territory to Louisiana, who just happens to like filling up it's oceans with oil drilling rigs. it's a stretch to pretenbd this isn't the motive.

And it is only tangentially related to the topic.

I did not mean this to be a political thread only my opinion on our state's response to the damage. I guess it is getting political though.

My post was not aimed at you but rather a commentary on something else. However, I fear that any comment on Katrina relief will be of necessity political since the issue has been politicized so much.
