let's talk about the Halftime Show :(

Never did I think I'd be wishing for Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake. But if there was ever any doubt in your mind that the Stones are done, the halftime show better have made you a believer. Since they haven't put out a decent album in almost 30 years, two of the three songs were oldies. Start Me Up and Satisfaction, presumably chosen so Mick could remember the lyrics, seemed to repeat over and over and over, while Mick gyrated around the stage dripping homosexuality(JMO) and sweat. Sad and disturbing. Attention-grabbing in the same way a car wreck is.
Now those who know me, are well aware that I'm classic rock all the way, with a little country thrown in. But frankly, the Stones are absolutely terrible live, and no amount of self proclaimed love for the great music of the 60's and 70's, will ever change my opinion of them. Jagger makes me feel sick like I've drank all night, and had spaghetti for breakfast.
There are many groups out there that can still do it...the Stones haven't had it for a long long time now.
Halftime rating: F

They still can
play great but Mick's voice (while not the greatest) was shot. His performance antics were they way I always remembered them.
Still, to me, just say NO to Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.

Give me good old classic rock & roll ANYTIME!

Honestly, I've never really cared one iota for the Rolling Stones. I always thought they were too grungy, sweaty, and gross.
*snicker* Your opinion is my opinion too, J! His dance moves are too ambiguous and border on effeminate.

I wasn't impressed. I mean, they have had a couple of songs that I liked, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

I saw them in 1989 and I thought they were too old to be doing shows then. Time has not helped that.
Watching that halftime show made me feel sorry for them, I only hope that as I continue to age, I will continue to realize the ridiculousness of trying to act too young.

I too was not a Stones fan Duckie. Back then I was into other British bands - Yes, Moody Blues, Genesis, and a few US ones, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby/Stills/Nash. And of course I liked the Beatles too. I just wasn't really into the Stones. Not-not into them either, if their songs came on the radio, I didn't switch channels.
My youngest daughter who along with her sister keeps me current with music, thought the halftime show was interesting. Especially the way Jagger struts across stage. She said he wasn't very manly and dances odd. LOL! And she thought he looked old. I said well, wait there's a scarier one, and voila, there he was on camera. Please don't ask me which one (lead guitarist?) they're all kinda scary looking - as if they've smoked 3 packs a day for decades, drank fifth's of liquor on a regular basis and worse. You know, worse.
I guess what I'm saying is if you closed your eyes, the half time show sounded good! But once you opened them, it was was like - eeek!!!!

Keith Richards/"former" heroin addict -----
as is the case with many heroin addicts, they somehow forget their sexual orientation, and do whatever feels good...getting high, and having sex with whoever. If you wonder why they strut around the stage and "look" effeminate, its because they are.

Well, the Stones were never known for their appearance! LOL
My daughters still laugh because my favorite Beatle was Paul McCartney. I say that's b/c that opinion was formed when I was 9! He was the cutest Beatle. But now I realize John was probably the most talented.
What I'm saying is the Stones were always known for their talent, not their looks! The producers of this event certainly knew they were booking a band that looked washed up, even if they're not really washed up. They just look like they are.
I hope I'm making sense. Thanks for the name j. Isn't Keith Richards who Johnny Depp patterned part of his swaggering style for Pirates of the Careibean from?

one more comment (I've said too much already)
closing my eyes did not make the suffering any easier for me.
Now McCartney (was it last year??)----that was a different story.

McCartney was last year.
I really hope they book someone like Green Day next year. That's what we need to suggest! Good idea, tornadchaser!
