They're first baby is due sometime today and I'M pacing!!

I'm going to be bringing Mom up to the hospital in less than an hour. God I feel so tense! I feel it in my neck and shoulders!

They're inducing her a week earlier from her original due date of Valentine's Day. She's considered high risk (age, hypothyroidism, etc.) and at Christmas, the baby was already 5 1/2 lbs.

Actually, today is the same day as my Grandmother's birthday (my Mother's Mom).

I'll let you guys and gals know if it's a guy or a gal tonight or tomorrow.

Hopefully Steph all goes well and I am praying for that to occur.

Steph - oh I remember waiting for my brother's first child to be born (1977). The pacing, it was on my mind each day back then. The first grandchild in our family. Long before I became a mother. Doesn't matter one wit if you're the aunt, you still worry and pray.

So I'll pray with you. And suggest you try not to worry! That's hard to pull off but try! You're a wonderful aunt already and you will be again soon!

[Coincidentally, my daughter and son-in-law became an aunty and uncle tonight, as well --unexpected C-section for his sister in IN 3 weeks ahead of due date --baby girl and mom are fine.]

CONGRATULATIONS AUNT STEPH!!

I remember the wait in the waiting room with my folks and sister Retha's in-laws...while she delivered my niece and nephew...1994 and 1997 respectively.

Time sure does fly...as my niece is now 11 1/2 yrs-old and nephew will be 9 on February 28th.

Thanks gang - UNFORTUNATELY both times they gave her the medication to try and inuce her labor didn't do a thing. She didn't dilate. The doctor couldn't believe when she came in to check on her that she was sitting there smiling instead of in pain. The baby is doing well - we were listening to the heart monitor beep away. They gave Karen two choices - either stay overnight and do this all over again and if trying to induce her didn't work, then she must have the C-section or go home and go back to the office this week to see if they can help it along any further. Her water never broke. Karen chose plan B - she wants to try and avoid a C-section if at all possible.

The doctor says that the baby is about 9 pounds now. She wasn't due until Valentine's Day and perhaps the "kid" knows that. I guess that if the baby is happy for right now and not under duress that's a good thing. Either way, the baby will probably be on his/her way by next week.

Karen's niece and nephew were both over 9 pounds so it kind of runs in her family, but STILL!!

9 pounds.....possible C-section. History with trouble dilating.....mmmm, I think I'd opt for the C-section!

Forget Valentine's Day.....but then again, I was never quite happy preggo but very happy after I had the baby! It was all worth it.....

Being that this is her first, she probably wants to try and have it naturally.

I can't even THINK of that possibility!

If baby or mom isn't in any immediate danger then I would have opt for plan B too. Recovery from a C section is much longer and more painful. Good luck to her and the induction, and congratulations, how exciting!!!!

First off, congrats...

Ditto...Having the baby naturally vice c-section = faster recovery time.

When our daughter was born, everything happened so fast my wife didn't have time for the epidural (?sp). Birth only took 19 minutes flat, and she was up walking around in about three hours...What a trooper (Since I met my wife in '92, we've been the "competitive" type, but this is one she's got me beat hands down).

But anyways...congrats.
