I have worked for this company for 4 mos and have learned a lot and do my best to help get the job done. The people like me there and have tried to help me learn about pipelaying. In the past month, I have been told Im getting a raise, Im getting fired, Im getting laid off, and this past friday, I was told that I will always have a job there and told Im going nowhere but with them. Well my hours have been cut dramtically along with the entire crew I work for because my foreman chooses to try and talk to women and do drug deals all day instead of being a foreman and running the job. He is not working us enough to make production in an 8 hr day but working us 10 hrs+ so the owner cut our hours. My foreman went as far last week as talking to another company about hiring me and told them he had to lay me off. Friday I hear him talking about an ounce of something is supposed to be delivered to him from miami and he has goes by the name pineapple to these people. All I can say is my foreman has a whistle blower on his crew and I will ask the owner to get someone to call his cell and ask for his code name and a deal to confirm what I am saying.... In the meantime, I am tempted to quit this company and apply for the job my foreman got me and leave him high and dry since he seems to need me now. I hate the stress of this day to day I may have a job or may not crap :( Any advice?

Wonder how on earth your foreman EVER became a foreman to begin with given his drug dealing/trafficking background? :(

Listen I think think it's a good idea that you have the owner call him. But, be carefull about the whole situation. Or on the other hand maybe it would be better for you to get a job at another location so you don't have to deal with the whole thing but, you can still get him fired when you leave but, you can make so it is anonymous. Anyway good luck with that... it's terrible you have to deal with that crap because you have to work there 40 hours a week. Good luck

You better be careful about "telling on" people like that. For all you know, the owner knows and is getting a cut as well. Not likely, but possible. He/they may be physically harmless, but you can't know for sure. I'd tell the authorities. They will keep it anonymous and protect you if need be.

I agree with southerngale but, maybe you shouldn't even get the authorities involved and get that job at the other place so you don't even have to make your problem.

I would agree that the first decision is whether to leave that stressful job. Try for a job at a company with which your foreman has no connection. In terms of the dealing, (a)wait until you're not longer working where that foreman is and (b)contact the authorities (not your present boss) anonymously only if you feel safe in doing so.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I will leave it alone and maybe just find another job. I didnt think about him possibly making life hard outside of work but I guess that would be possible. I know revenge would be sweet and he dont belong where he is at cause he makes more mistakes than he does good and we spend a lot of time fixing his mistakes he makes on the backhoe. I think the man lied on his app somewhere but I guess if I dont like the situation, I should just take myself out of it and move on.

I would guess that this foreman is not overly concerned with safety either. Are you using a trench box? How deep are the trenches?

If you're working to make up for mistakes and wasted time, corners will be cut, quality will suffer, and safety will be compromised. Find another job fast.

Q: What do they call a guy that falls in a trench?
A: Phil.

I'd find another job fast. I wouldn't want to see you connected to this creep in anyway shape or form. It could be that the owner is in on it - you never know and at this point, you don't need to know. Just look out for number one.

I agree with that decision, leave it alone. You don't want to mess with people like this, let alone rat on them. No way, you never know who or what they know. If you do rat on him, someone may show up at your house and beat the living crap out of you, at best. You never know. Just remove yourself from this whole crazy situation, it doesn't sound like a dependable job anyways. "In the past month, I have been told Im getting a raise, Im getting fired, Im getting laid off, and this past friday, I was told that I will always have a job there and told Im going nowhere but with them." And now your hours have been cut. Sounds like you are going no where fast. Just go get yourself another job, you will be happy you did.

Take it from somebody in law enforcement, leave and FAST! Also, I'm sure your local PD or Sheriffs Dept. has a Silent Witness phone number to call........do it, you can remain anonymous.

I agree with "get out and fast"! This is your job. If he is going nowhere, fast,
then, you are bound for the same direction. You have a life - you surely have goals - don't let this character destroy your life and goals.
