Has anyone else received recorded phone calls to retrieve an "important message" at an 877 number? Before the message concludes, the female voice states it is not a sales call.

Yeah right, we say.

We just keep hanging up. And we're not calling that number either.

Haven't found anything online to warn people about a scam like this. Just wondered if anyone else has received this message.

Annette - oh we are, hanging up each time. But I thought they couldn't call you anymore? We don't have caller ID.....

Jim thinks it's a scam to charge your phone bill. But we're not finding out if he's right!

877 is a toll free number. I looked it up and it seems there are a lot of computer companies and software companies that use it. I would say its a good bet they are going to try and sell you something.

Thanks but I'll pass. I think they'd try to sell us something too.

It's to the point now where we donate to one charity (family memorial for our nephew who died in a car accident, he was a devoted boy scout, and there's a memorial in his name), one door to door sales item (Girl Scout cookies) and possibly neighborhood kids asking for fund raising donations (if I know them well), and that's pretty much IT!

I certainly don't miss these salesmen....

The clear liquid cleaner that could magically clean anything and the salesman would demonstrate how shiny he could polish our brass covered doorknob. Yes a shiny doorknob is the answer to all my problems!

The magic yellow cloth that sold for $15, that could polish "anything" in mere minutes, by repeated rubbing. My husband fell for this one. I could not believe it. It sat at the bottom of my sink, for my best example of how not to get ripped off! LOL

The college aged kids selling magazines. Sure, I buy that......not!

And.....

A demonstrator wanting to book your precious time, 2 or 3 hours, to hear them explain how the knives or insert other product, are the best you'll ever buy, conveniently not available in stores. And the clincher - your friends John and Sue Doe - gave me your name and phone number!

I never fell for any of these. Again, hubby did once. Ordered his Consumer Report's, thru a bogus college kid, and what came in the mail? Consumer Digest. Boy was he livid! Don't mess with his Consumer Report's issues.....he somehow got out of that order.

I'm so glad our community passed a do not solicit ordinance.
