A man and a woman were killed when a helicopter crashed just before noon Wednesday in north Scottsdale.
The helicopter crashed between two homes on the 8100 block of East Lariot Lane, said Dave Cieslak, spokesman for the Scottsdale Fire Department.
The area where the chopper crashed, just southwest of Pima and Jomax roads, is zoned for large-lot homes that preserve the desert character.
Iris Peschel was home when she heard the chopper crash. She rushed outside and could hear other neighbors yelling to dial 911, while yet another rushed to the helicopter.
Peschel said she and other neighbors watched as emergency workers pulled bodies from the aircraft. Officials have not released the identies of the two killed.
Investigators are still trying to piece together how the chopper crashed and officials from Scottsdale Police Department, Scottsdale Fire Department, Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are on the scene investigating.
No other details were immediately available.
