My Redneck neighbor, who in the past has:

knocked over my lightpost while rolling in neutral trying to find a gear (of course never admitted to it). How do I know? -- because I've seen him almost do it a hundred times before

has repeatedly backed on to my lawn with an assortment of huge trucks....

who never rakes leaves, but when he does he burns them whereever they end up...drinking beer and littering the pile with the empties

Mows weeds once or twice a year, while drinking beer. My fertilizer is just a waste of money.

Has Charlie Manson eyes

Owns a Rottweiller named "Annabelle" who of course is never on a leash

If you've seen the Movie "The Burbs" with Tom Hanks, you know what i'm talking about here...

Just pray better neighbors move in. Not to be negative, but it can always get worse. Been there. Enjoy being nieghborless in the meantime.

lol - yep, Eric! I'm still freaked about that

same here. there are a couple of rednecks sorta across the street who are talking about swinging folks from their hickory tree. and then next door there are some new people who have SIX kids. toys out all over the yard. just kind of shabby looking... all of the other neighbors are great!

It's stories like this that make me happy to live in a deed-restricted community.

we live in a restricted community too, but it doesnt seem to matter that much

When you buy the house, you agree to community rules regarding the upkeep and appearance of your property, among other things. If you break the rules, you get warned, and if you continue to do so you get fined. In Florida, homeowners associations have great power to enforce these rules and collect the fines.

Sounds more like Big Brother-government controlled IMO.

Well it would if it were the government, but homeowners' associations rae private entities. And we enter into them voluntarily.

The best part is they prevent neighbors like those described above from ruining property values.

enforcement is the biggest issue here. there are people who still park their boats in their yards and stuff and no one does much about it.

It sounds like neighborhoods for the elite and wealthy...certainly out of my price range.

I wish I were elite and/or wealthy. I'm on my way but I'm not there yet, not by a long shot.

Here in Florida a large portion of neighborhoods at all price ranges are deed-restricted. I didn't liek it at first, but they are good for keeping property values relatively high.

My previous next door neighbors had seven kids, most of which ran wild and got into everything (I will leave out the babies, since I didn't see them much LOL). Now there is one woman with her 2 year old boy in that house - what an improvement!

As of yesterday there are three empty houses across the street from me, and I am scared to see who will buy them! Seems like each time someone moves out and someone new moves in, there are just a little worse than the previous owner. Maybe everyone thought that about us when we bought our house too - since we bought it from a 70 something woman who was a member of the garden club and kept her flowerbeds immaculate - with two kids, a large dog, and work, I don't have time for that <g>. But I do keep my kids under control; they are respectful and don't run wild.
