Something bit me last week and now it has turned it a big swollen red welt and hurts like crazy. I am afraid that it is infected. It hurts to even have my clothes hit it. OUCH is all I can say.
Update on bug bite:
I went to the doctor this morning. Finally got in to see her. Definetly an infected bug bite. She culture it today and prescribe me Bactrim for the infection and Darvocet for the pain. The pain was so bad last night I didn't sleep much.
She also said to wash it out with Hydrogen Perioxide several times a day. Hopefully this will help. She thinks the infection is Staph which is the same thing my 4 year old had a couple of weeks ago but wants to make sure.
It still hurts but not like this morning. I took one darvocet and it eased the pain but didn't put me to sleep. I am a little tired but not to the point I can' focus.

I had that when I was a teenager on my arm. A mosquito bite must've gotten infected. My swelled up so bad and it did hurt. I had to have it drained, etc. BLAH!!
Definately get your butt to the doctor's beachbum. It does sound like a spider bite to me and I've know others that have been biten by one and needed antibiotics to get rid of it.

If it was a brown recluse and its been a week, I think it wouldn't look like a bump anymore, but be raw by now. May not be a bite at all as Lindaloo was saying. Sometimes an infected bug bite can last a month or more. 2 my girls will itch their sketter bites for months, they seem to never go away.
Does it itch beachbum? Or raw? At any rate I agree if the pain does not go away soon get it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

I was in the green house at school where I work and something bit me there. It could be a spider bite or staph because we dealt with staph about three weeks ago with my four year old. She got mosquito bite and they got infected and turned into staff. Even though I tried to be careful while taking care of her I could had gotten it. I am going to the doctor next week if it is not better by tomorrow. Tuesday we are supposed to leave to go to Orange Beach for Spring Break.
Thanks everyone.

Perhaps it could be staph then. Either way, you'll need an antibiotic to get rid of it. I would just call the doctor tomorrow and get an appointment.
Good luck!

I hate to say this but I was just reading about a rash of bed bug bites. They're on the increase in Kentucky and very high here in Cincinnati.
I saw an article online yesterday.....I'll try to find it.
We watched a funny King of Queens episode recently, where Doug and Carie's bed was infested with them (from a previous trip to a budget hotel). They carried them in.
I really thought the possibility of that being a factual story was slim. Until I read that article! Apprarently not, people are reporting bug bites from bed bugs!
I'll try to find the article for you. Not saying it's from a bed bug but I guess it's possible. Hope you feel better!

dont wait...depending on what it is, it could be a ticking time bomb (no pun intended) you need to get it checked out ASAP, the sooner you get it taken care of, the better.

The brown recluse venom is extremely poisonous, even more potent than that of a rattlesnake. Yet recluse venom causes less disease than a rattlesnake bite because of the small quantities injected into its victims. The venom of the brown recluse is toxic to cells and tissues.
This venom is a collection of enzymes. One of the specific enzymes, once released into the victim’s skin, causes destruction of local cell membranes, which disrupts the integrity of tissues leading to local breakdown of skin, fat, and blood vessels. This process leads to eventual tissue death called necrosis in areas immediately surrounding the bite site.
The venom also induces in its victim an immune response. The victim’s immune system releases inflammatory agents—histamines, cytokines, and interleukins—that signal specific disease-fighting white blood cells to the area of injury. In severe cases, however, these same inflammatory agents can themselves cause injury. These secondary effects of the venom, although extremely rare, can produce these more significant side effects of the spider bite:
Destruction of red blood cells
Low platelet count
Blood clots in capillaries and loss of ability to form clots where needed
Acute renal failure (kidney damage)
Coma
Death
