Just found out today that my husband (who is only 36 years old) has blockage in the top part of his heart and along his main artery. There is extensive history with heart disease in both sides of his family and his cholesterol is right now at 300. He is not overweight, active and most of the time eats the right thing. Well today he went to a cardiologist after many tests over the last 2 weeks. He has to go 5th of April (Wed) for a cardiac catheter, depending on what they see, he will either be on meds or they will have to put a splint in. His doctor is very concerned and basically said that he is a heart attack waiting to happen. He praised his primary for actually listening to what his patient was telling him and doing what had to be done. If we hadn't followed up on what he was feeling in 6 months to a year the odds would not have been in his favor. My hubby's biological father passed away at 45 of a massive heart attack. Sorry for the long post but as you can imagine I am a little upset tonite.
Debbie

Be glad that it was noticed early. Unlike my dad's case; where he had the heart attack and died instantly. I will be praying for you and your family.

Thank you everyone. Everyone in my family is praying with all your prayers I am hoping he is listening. We have been tested time and time again the last 13 years. I wonder when it stops. 7 years ago (I was 30) I got diagnosed with cervical cancer and we found I couldn't have children. I am upset tonite, so please bear with me. But I m having a hard time with my faith tonite. My MIL passed away 3 years ago at the age of 50 with heart problems. He grabbed me a little while ago and hugged me and said you know I am going to be alright don't you. I told him yes but with everything else has happened to us I am almost at the end of my rope. Don't know what I would do if something happened to him. Sorry guys, but it seems easier venting to faces I can't see than the friends and family sitting in front of me. Don't know if that makes sense.

sweetpea - you just vent away. I needed to when I was recovering from colon cancer surgery back in 1999. I found several medical message boards back then that were very helpful. One site I refer to a lot now is:

http://www.webmd.com/
They have info on any medical situation, big or small, message boards too. I would start there.

Here's another I found for you:
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter. ... er=1200000

Perform a google search and I'm sure you'll find more. Perhaps go to a local hospital's website, they might offer info there as well.

Ask so many questions, keep a medical journal on him, write everything down you're told to do. In other words, have him become his own advocate. That's what I did. I wanted to find ways to make my situation better and actually found out more info on message boards than from my own surgeon (post op care).

Finally, could you find a real in person cardiac support group in your area? That would be very helpful. Just to talk to someone going thru the same situation.

I began praying the minute I read your first post on this thread. Please keep us updated. My best to you.

Mary

Prayers from New Orleans sweatpea. It is a good thing this was caught, most times you wouldn't think to look for something like this in someone so young.

He has been having shortness of breath, he said the worst is when he is relaxed and trying to catch his breath. He also is extremely tired all the time and having some chest pains. Also there are days he comes home form work and he looks gray or extremely pale. We are spanish so he is olive complected can really see a difference. He is a carpenter so he is in good shape.

Thank you everyone for your continued prayers. I showed him this today and he couldn't believe it. He NEVER comes on the computer. He didn't realize that people would do things like this for someone they meet online. He said with all this he will be just fine. I will update you guys probably Thursday after everything is said and done.
